COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Four months in Kentucky Bourbon barrels has transformed this formidable Russian Imperial Stout to somewhere beyond the event horizon; the result is a beer of ’infinite density’ and compelling complexities. ABV initially 11.8%, was 14.6% too.

Dark cola colour. Aroma is hugely boozy, with bits of bourbon and cocoa. Taste is more balanced, featuring malt, smoke, and toffee.

UPDATED: JUN 3, 2016 On tap at Alibi, 2016 release. Pours very dark brown, almost black with a brown head. Aroma and taste are slightly sweet, dark fruits, burnt malt, saddle, with some chocolate, cocoa and roasted sunflower seeds notes and some alcohol. Burnt malt with dark fruits and some bourbon, saddle, chocolate and smoky notes aftertaste. Very good balanced beer. Should become even better with aging.

Thanks to Matt for this brew!

2016 bottle poured. Huge thanks to mcberko for the bottle! Listed at 11.2% Jet black pour with an active tan fizz head and sticking lace. Aroma is chocolate, doughy, and a bit nutty. Big chocolate flavor upnfront, and a little dough, a lot like the aroma. Thick body, lingering cocoa finish. Excellent.

2012 vintage. Pours pitch black with a one finger beige head that quickly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks of soapy lacing are left behind. Smokey roasted malt aroma with a nice barrel character that makes itself know without overpowering everything else. Grassy and piney hops along with dry, toasted oak, coconut, vanilla and spicy bourbon but the roasted malts and dark chocolate really stand out. Thinner bodied than expected with soft carbonation and a decent amount of boozy bourbon but the barrel character is nicely integrated throughout. Some toasted oak and vanilla bean followed by a prominent bourbon presence that lingers over the sweet and roasted malt backbone into a slightly dry finish. Underneath the barrel notes, there is more sweetness than roast with hints of silky chocolate, toffee and caramel along followed by some oatmeal, burnt malt and roasted coffee bean. Well balanced and complex with subtle heat in the finish but the high abv is well masked making this strong beer easier to drink than expected.

Bottle split at RBWG ’15 hotel lobby share on the final night, thanks to whomever shared this one, 21/02/15. Black with a moderate tan covering. Nose is rich malt, light peppery spice, chocolate malt, charr, light roasted tones, subtle barrel. Taste comprises rich chocolate, dark fruit rinds, spice, trace of bourbon. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a little added boost. Ok impy but doesn’t really get out of 2nd gear for me.
