COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Four months in Kentucky Bourbon barrels has transformed this formidable Russian Imperial Stout to somewhere beyond the event horizon; the result is a beer of ’infinite density’ and compelling complexities. ABV initially 11.8%.

On tap at Brouwer’s Big Wood 2012. Pours black. Roasted malts, with a bit of rubber, and some molasses. Boozy, boozy, boozy. Slight honey / candi sugar counter, but this one is super hot -- nowhere near ready, and nowhere near worth the price. Needs some work.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of medium bourbon notes with some woody notes and light vanilla with some medium dry roasted malt with light dry notes. Taste is a mix between some bourbon notes with some light vanilla and dry roasted malt with dry black chocolate notes. Body is quite full with a nice creamy texture and good carbonation. Not the most complex beer out there and not enough vanilla and woody notes to satisfy me but still very enjoyable nonetheless.

2012 bottle. Vanilla, wood, roast on the nose. Licorice and malt on the palate, wood on the finish (!). My friend (a newcomer to the style) said it’s what beer is like when stripped to its barest elements.

UPDATED: MAY 18, 2013 650 ml bottle. Pours black with very little head. Aromas of smoke and dark chocolate powder. Smoky light bourbon flavor with underlying dark chocolate and black coffee notes. Alcohol present but in keeping with the bourbon taste. Nice. Much better now that it’s aged for a bit. Update again May/13 - Much richer though still hot. Additional toffee notes.

651mL black wax thanks to Emily. Deep blood red pour with small mocha bubbles. Ruby highlights. Nose is sweet tomato, salt, savory pickle, rendered fat, smoked brisket, roasted meat. Very interesting. Taste is bitter, fatty, semisweet chocolate, hazelnut. Palate is clean, nutty, bitter. Not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2012 Big thanks to the esteemed Mr. Dove for this rare treat. black. It pretty much slid out of the bottle in eerie silence setting the trap to ambush my senses. There is a thin dark brown head that lasts surprisingly long and produced random speckles. The succulent dark milky chocolate, dark roast and sweet bourbon notes just got hammered down by the alcohol. Now, that hasn’t happened on every snort of my air intake valves but it happened enough. Often is just pure goodness. A bunch of testing has lead me to know that the bourbon shows up when ever it wants in varying degrees. Raisin, plum and nuts. Decent aroma that is not heavily complex but very nice. The taste is warm, thick and velvety smooth. Starts quiet but about mid way the goodness smashes through and goes out forever. Wait.... wait.... ah there it is. A bit odd to have to wait but I think there’s a saying about that. Not a lot of food or water and lots of biking and mud has me all of a sudden feeling this beer more than I’ve felt beers effects in quiteP a while. Thick medium dark chocolate with minor bitterness, smooth roast that blends in at the back ground. Bourbon and im blown away but the olympics are blowing my mind farther. Ah fuck. I’ll be drunk off this when I finish it. 1/4 bottle to go. Cream, choco, malt, light alc bite, burb, thickness. This is what it needs to be. It really earns its stripes on the last half of the flavour. The bourbon really makes its mark when warm. Man - Elizabeth Tweedle is so not bangable.

The pour is nearly black in color with a small khaki colored head. Plenty of roasted malt with a bit of coffee, chocolate, and bourbon. Tons and tons of barrel, which was a bit unexpected. The flavor offers a little less bourbon and vanilla notes with a bit more roasted malt flavor, along with some bitter chocolate. Light coffee and malt sweetness. The bourbon comes out a bit more as the beer warms up.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours very dark brown with a creamy/bubbly tan head. Aroma is pretty much bourbon. Near full bodied. Flavor starts with chocolate and quickly transitions to bourbon. The funny thing is that the bourbon is not overpowering - it’s just the principal flavor in a very smooth and tasty IS. There’s burnt malt, but the bourbon smooths it out. The heat is hard to find. Finishes mildly sweet chocolate with bourbon. Oak? I think so. There’s an astringent aspect. Really good stuff here.
