3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pretty well done. My major mistake was drinking this after an expedition stout, but it still holds up pretty well. Initial malt smell a tiny bit off like a few Ontario I-stouts I’ve had recently. The bourbon is pretty evident here, with some booze, dark chocolate and roasted malt. Finishes all bourbon with some boozy sweetness. Pours black with good mocha head and lacing. Texture creamy and slick. Has a little spice in the end as well. 2013 bottle.

Smooth, but big and bold. Bourbon comes through but it is the huge choclate stout base that wins.

nearly broke my glass this beer is damn dense poured it black as black then let it sit for about twenty min came back crawling with crazy smells of wood and bourbon, vanilla, roasty low carb slight bitter at first then i got into it and every sip gives you a different taste then you get the vanilla coffee maybe or dark choc. GOOOOOOOOOD BEEEEEEER

Big chocolate and barrel, heat noticeable at the time. Hangs easily with other big imperial stouts.

On tap at Brouwer’s Big Wood 2012. Pours black. Roasted malts, with a bit of rubber, and some molasses. Boozy, boozy, boozy. Slight honey / candi sugar counter, but this one is super hot -- nowhere near ready, and nowhere near worth the price. Needs some work.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of medium bourbon notes with some woody notes and light vanilla with some medium dry roasted malt with light dry notes. Taste is a mix between some bourbon notes with some light vanilla and dry roasted malt with dry black chocolate notes. Body is quite full with a nice creamy texture and good carbonation. Not the most complex beer out there and not enough vanilla and woody notes to satisfy me but still very enjoyable nonetheless.

2012 bottle. Vanilla, wood, roast on the nose. Licorice and malt on the palate, wood on the finish (!). My friend (a newcomer to the style) said it’s what beer is like when stripped to its barest elements.
