Vintage 2010. Lots of bourbon in the aroma with vanilla, molasses. Flavours of vanilla, oak, dark chocolate, espresso. Very bold and the alcohol emerges on the finish. Surprisingly smooth.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2013 Deep, dark and aggressive. Thick and roasty, pours like intergalactic molasses. More coffee than chocolate, but with notes of sweetness and a hint of bourbon that helps carry the high alcohol content beautifully. I wish this wasn’t limited to just being a seasonal offering and am already marking off the days until next year’s version comes out. UPDATE: 2013 was worth the wait. Dark fruits stand out a little more, as does the bourbon and the oak.

Bottle at a BA/RB tasting... Poured black as night with little-to-no head. This was dark, thick, dense, quite viscous. Some toasted, charred, malt. Big roast, full flavored. Coated the palate like motor oil. Bitter-sweet molasses, anise spice, dark chocolate.

Well it certainly is black. very light malt nose. Sweet toasted malt, with licorice hints and an odd spiciness in the back of the month.

Deep black pour, tan head. Sweet, boozy bourbon aroma with vanilla and toffee. Thick, silky mouth coating body. Sweet and caramelly flavor with moderate char and roasty espresso, vanilla, moderate bitter, warm alcohol and spice on the finish. This is the first imp stout I’ve had from BC, and I’m quite pleased with it.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2013 Inky black pour, although just a hint of light penetrates, so there is the slightest ruby-red shading. Nose is roasted graham cracker, a bit of chocolate, a bit more bourbon, vanilla, cedar, and allspice.Very different, but also appealing. Body is fairly full, but could perhaps be a tad richer. Taste is chocolate, bourbon, char/roast, cedar, a surprising grapefruit/mandarin orange/tangerine/kiwi/plum middle with more chocolate, bourbon, allspice, char, and floral hops in the finish. The alcohol is definitely very noticeable, and yet it is restrained for 14%, and certainly not overbearing.

Pours opaque black with an espresso foam head. Head retaining well, heavy lacing. Cold: Aroma is mostly sweet bourbon, some light chocolate and roast. Flavour is alcohol and sweetnesss, dark chocolate, toffee, light licorice notes. Warming. Warmed: Head still persists as a ring with decent lacing. Aroma is sweet, some bourbon, lots of licorice with caramel and roast, alcohol. Flavour is sweet, chocolate, caramel, sweet alcoholic, warming Overall a great beer, could use some aging to tone down sharp alcohol flavours. Huge mouthfeel, thick, flavour lingers with lots of roasty bitterness.

Wow, This beer pours darker than any other that I can remember. Black. The head is great with a burnt cappuccino color that is thick, thick that lingers down to a nice coating across the surface. The aroma is boozey bourbon hot, here we go -The taste follows up the aromas with the alcohol right away, Fruit is plum, fig, dates. sweetness is all around. maybe a hint of chocolate/cacao. It does have a ton of booze in here, maybe too much for drinking right away, and any aging could benefit and round out the mouthfeel. Nice job Driftwood for having the cahones to brew a beer with such intensity. I’ll purchase another bottle and put it away for a year.

22. Thanks dan! Pours jet black with a loose heavy swirl of burnt tan head. Huge forward bourbon nose, sweet and caramelly. Creamy thick body with soft carb. Velvety velvety smooth. Sweet mid palate showing plenty of residual sugars, along with caramel and vanilla from the barrel and a nicely balanced roastiness. Creamy smooth and sweet.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2012 Re-rated a bottle of the 2012 in December - now it has some age on it. Solid black with a small pale head. Aroma is liquorice, soy sauce, dates, raisins, figs, brown sugar. Slightly slick mouthfeel, full bodied, oaky finish. Taste is dates, liquorice, coffee, molasses, touch of oak. Much better with some age.

Appearance is a deep black with a medium brown head that leaves behind a little lacing. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, bourbon and a hint of plum. Taste is espresso, dark chocolate, plum, dates and oak. Slightly slick on the palate, good complexity, slightly bitter and boozy finish. Should cellar well, in fact they should really keep it another year before releasing.
