COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Four months in Kentucky Bourbon barrels has transformed this formidable Russian Imperial Stout to somewhere beyond the event horizon; the result is a beer of ’infinite density’ and compelling complexities. ABV initially 11.8%, was 14.6% too.

Winter 2012/2013, vintage 2013, one year old
Pitch black color, small head. Strong aroma of roasted malt, whiskey barrel, raisins, light vanilla, some alcohol, tobacco, leather; complex. Thick and heavy body; round mouthfeel; it has a strong flavor of roasted malt and chocolate; the vanilla and Bourbon is very strong too; it has some liquorice and leather; medium to strong bitterness, with sharp alcohol presence, yet not boozy.
Very interesting.

Bottle split at RBWG ’15 hotel lobby share on the final night, thanks to whomever shared this one, 21/02/15. Black with a moderate tan covering. Nose is rich malt, light peppery spice, chocolate malt, charr, light roasted tones, subtle barrel. Taste comprises rich chocolate, dark fruit rinds, spice, trace of bourbon. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a little added boost. Ok impy but doesn’t really get out of 2nd gear for me.

The pour is nearly black in color with a small khaki colored head. Plenty of roasted malt with a bit of coffee, chocolate, and bourbon. Tons and tons of barrel, which was a bit unexpected. The flavor offers a little less bourbon and vanilla notes with a bit more roasted malt flavor, along with some bitter chocolate. Light coffee and malt sweetness. The bourbon comes out a bit more as the beer warms up.

2011 bottle, aged 1 year. Dark brown with no head. Light aroma for the style with some alcohol and a hint of toastiness. Sweet with milk chocolate and some alcohol finish. Kind of boozy, really. This is an impy junior in its intensity level, and there is no particular coming together of the barrel and stout flavours.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours very dark brown with a creamy/bubbly tan head. Aroma is pretty much bourbon. Near full bodied. Flavor starts with chocolate and quickly transitions to bourbon. The funny thing is that the bourbon is not overpowering - it’s just the principal flavor in a very smooth and tasty IS. There’s burnt malt, but the bourbon smooths it out. The heat is hard to find. Finishes mildly sweet chocolate with bourbon. Oak? I think so. There’s an astringent aspect. Really good stuff here.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2012 650mL bottle, pours black with a tan head. Dense aroma of bourbon, oak, vanilla, molasses and a hint of licorice, and tons of booze. Flavour is incredibly boozy, with bourbon and oak throughout and lingering notes of bitter chocolate / molasses and vanilla. The booze is terribly worked in and the bourbon dominates. Thin palate for it is and not rich in complexity. Not so good.
