Bottle, flip top. Pours a clear brown color with a nice, medium sized, light tanned head. Faint aroma of yeast, red fruits and malts. Flavour is light sweet, short finish and medium dry on the palate. Decent, but not much special.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
from bottle. pours a clear brown/red colour with a beige rocky head. aroma is roasted malts and some dark fruits with a slightly metallic touch. average carbonation, light body and watery mouthfeel. tastes surprisingly fruity, malty of course and ends with a decent hoppy bitterness. all in all a bit thin though...however, this is a well balanced and highly drinkable dunkel.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Head is initially large, frothy/creamy, off-white to light brown, mostly lasting.
Body is clear medium brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, toasted bread, roasted nuts, milk chocolate), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), with notes of toffee, scorched honey, orange peel.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter.
Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation.
Oh my god, do my eyes and nose deceive me??? Look at that big, lasting head that leaves actual LACING on the glass! Smell the rich, caramelly, nutty, toffee-and-orange peel aroma (I’m reminded of Abbaye des Rocs, believe it or not)! This is a German lager? Get out! It’s admittedly rather candy-ish and a little unusual, but it’s very expressive and delicious. Very curious to try the Helles now.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Swing-top by 28.12.2012. Nose is very sweet toffee, deep ruby pour with a rocky tan head. Taste is relatively dry with red fruit around the edges, caramel and toffee in the middle, just a bit of grit and chocolate to give some heft to the medium body. There’s a mild bitterness that rounds things out.
