3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Maria (9559) - Thisted, DENMARK - MAY 15, 2011
From tap at the brewpub. It’s beautiful, dark red amber and the head is creamy. The aroma has light notes of burnt sugar and a little green bell-pepper. The flavour has notes of roasted malt, light coffee, dark syrup, a little green bell-pepper, and the finish is slightly dry with a hint of coffee.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Koelschtrinker (8471) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 29, 2011
Dunkler Karamellgeruch, süßlich. Vollmundig malzig-kaffeeartiger Antrunk, hier bereits trocken. Dann flacht das Aroma ab, das Malz wird ebenfalls trocken, die Kaffeenote dagegen bitterer. Deutlich weniger vollmundig als zuvor. Mehr Konstanz wäre schön! 13/9/10/8//9
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 pivnizub (7981) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - JUN 9, 2005
From the tap (Drummer’s garden, Leutenbach) Amber coloured; thin white foam; Bready nose; soft malty beginning, followed by a mild malty taste; very smooth, low carbonation; nearly no aftertaste (slightly bitter-sweet), thin bodied, almost watery: There are better ones in Franconia......
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MoritzF (7756) - Bochum, GERMANY - JAN 31, 2012
(swing top bottle) Hazy, chestnut-brown colour with a beige and tall foamy head. Sweet toast-malty aroma with notes of caramel/toffee, cacao and a tinge of molasses and anise. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a calm carbonation. Toasty malt-character with caramel and present herbal accents; moderately sweet and slightly bitter hoppy finish with notes of caramel in the aftertaste. Decent stuff from Franconia. 29.XII.11
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JorisPPattyn (7299) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - JUN 4, 2006
Clear copper-amber colour with brownish head, leaving textbook lace. Bready, freshly baked cake, eggbread, caramel malt. Much more bitter taste, quite dry, leafy flavours with hoptouch, and just a touch of (old) bread. Unfortunately there’s a distinct touch of diacetyl there too, responsible for near all the sweetness. Pity - would have rated much higher without. Retronasal again some bitterness - like horse chestnut flavour. Slick, well-filled, a tad too smooth. Pity about the diacetyl, otherwise good amber Vollbier.

bottle from Bierzwerg. Deep, chestnut-brown colour, mid-sized off-white head. Aroma of caramel. Cara-malty base, shy malty sweetness, drier towards the finish. Slightly woody.

Day Two of the Great Chris Meyer/Aaron Nielsen Franconian Beer Tasting in Schlitz. Prost! Somewhat hazy, dark, burnt orange appearance with a nice brown head. Rich caramel, a bit burnt toffee, grassy, nutty aroma. Nutty, very rich toffee, somewhat burnt, caramel malty, somewhat earthy, fairly sweet flavor.
