(swing top bottle) Hazy, chestnut-brown colour with a beige and tall foamy head. Sweet toast-malty aroma with notes of caramel/toffee, cacao and a tinge of molasses and anise. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a calm carbonation. Toasty malt-character with caramel and present herbal accents; moderately sweet and slightly bitter hoppy finish with notes of caramel in the aftertaste. Decent stuff from Franconia. 29.XII.11

Clear copper-amber colour with brownish head, leaving textbook lace. Bready, freshly baked cake, eggbread, caramel malt. Much more bitter taste, quite dry, leafy flavours with hoptouch, and just a touch of (old) bread. Unfortunately there’s a distinct touch of diacetyl there too, responsible for near all the sweetness. Pity - would have rated much higher without. Retronasal again some bitterness - like horse chestnut flavour. Slick, well-filled, a tad too smooth. Pity about the diacetyl, otherwise good amber Vollbier.

Bottle from Landbierparadies, Nurnberg. Chestnut coloured with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of toffee, nuts and some floral nuts. Chewy dough mouth feel. Flavour of sweet malt with a decent bitter finish. Good.

Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy/creamy, off-white to light brown, mostly lasting. Body is clear medium brown. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, toasted bread, roasted nuts, milk chocolate), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), with notes of toffee, scorched honey, orange peel. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Oh my god, do my eyes and nose deceive me??? Look at that big, lasting head that leaves actual LACING on the glass! Smell the rich, caramelly, nutty, toffee-and-orange peel aroma (I’m reminded of Abbaye des Rocs, believe it or not)! This is a German lager? Get out! It’s admittedly rather candy-ish and a little unusual, but it’s very expressive and delicious. Very curious to try the Helles now.

Bottle. Red chestnut, lively carbonation, big creamy and lacing golden head. Dark sugary entrance, caramel, peppery spicyness, minerally, very light stickyness. Medium body. Easy to drink despite the roasted characteristica.

Bottle from Landbierparadies. Pours out in a deep dark brown colour with steady low head and medium body. Aroma of malt and dust. Taste of malt, dark grains, bread, barley and caramel. Malty finish. Easy drinkable yet nothing special.

Etwas malzig, dazu ein Schuss Schokolade und ein wenig Getreide. Nicht ganz mein Fall, da es ein klein wenig zu sehr in Richtung Malz zieht. Ansonsten einfach solide.

caesar (5877) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - JUL 18, 2013
Bottled, BB 16 07 13, so 2 days past its date, large sample. Clear copper color, medium off-white head. Aroma of german hops, grassy and spicy, dark caramel, hint of sulphur, slight toast, hint of chocolate. Sweet and bitter taste, loads of caramel and toast, like in a good Dunkel. Quite tasty for a Dunkel actually.
