Pours brown with near white head. Aroma of carmel, raisins, and booze. Taste of bready malts, scotch, dark fruit, and more alcohol. Good brew.

January 1st, 2012 - I love Wee Heavies. I adore Dry Dock. This should be a no brainer. Dry Dock’s Wee Heavy may not have been a brew that I had the pleasure of drinking fresh from the tap on site like the good old days in 2011, but it’s a damn fine beer out of the bottle too, capturing the essence of the Scottish flavors that the brewers seem to have been aiming for. Darker brown in complexion with dashes of red and a head that quickly flees into the beer, this wee heavy looks placid, calm and saturnine. Dark, ripe raspberries and chocolate decorate the aroma, which is deep and sweet, but also a tad bit "chemical." Any wafts of cleaning agents in the aroma are quickly forgiven as I savor the taste and heavy palate. Deep notes of raspberries lurk like crocodiles in murky water, and a deep, sweet and abiding maltiness lends its weight and substantive flavor to form the center of the beer’s flavor. The aftertaste features a boozy burn, with a ladle full of the chocolate covered raspberry flavor taming some of the ethanol’s sharpness. One notable absence is that peaty flavor that often appears in scotch ales. Tasty, boozy and filled with all the elegant sweetness of a jam, yes, but scottish enough to don the bottle in a kilt? No. As it warms, new flavor dimensions appear, including a lovely caramelized, baked sweet potato earthiness, but still no flavors plucked from the Highlands. Nonetheless, this is an exceptionally tasting beer, suffering only from a somewhat strange nose, and a pedigree that doesn’t have a proper clan tartan.

Aroma is very sweet caramel with a hint of peatiness. Pours dark brown with a decent head that dissipates quickly due to high carbonation. Tastes very sweet with sweet malt and caramel flavors. Excellent scotch ale! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap @ Dry Dock on 1/14. Pour is dark. Aroma of brown sugar, toffee, carmel. Taste is sweet with a hint of bitterness. Not my favorite style.

(Draft) clear very deep/rich caramel color, not much head. Nose of caramel, light scotch characteristics, brown sugar, toasted coconut. Taste of toasted coconut, caramel, light in general, super rich and delicious, the low ratings are a shock. Excellent, sweet palate finish, medium body and carbonation. Linger of cinnamon. Legit beer.

A hazed dark amber color with a small off-white head. A slight peat aroma along with caramel, toffee, and dark fruit. Maybe a little watered down in terms of the aroma. The flavor is quite similar to the nose. Caramel, toffee, and a touch of brown sugar. Further sweetness provided by dark fruits but counteracted a little bit by the peat notes.

Enjoyed a 1 Pint 9.4 Fl Oz. bottle of this w/ CurtisMcArthur in Nashville, TN. Poured from the Grey/Yellow colored bottle w/ ships and a castle on it into a 12oz Jackie O’s Snifter Glass. Has no freshness/bottle date on the Aroma- Has an excellent caramel and malty aroma. Tons of sweetness and a small amount of the peaty characteristic I’m always looking for in this. Awesome! Can’t get any better. Appearance- Pours a less then .5 finger head. Has a caramel/dark brown colored body. Leaves light suds behind. Flavor- Very sweet, caramel notes from the beginning with the perfect scotch ale background. Very rich and malty. Light bitterness at the finish. Mouthfeel- Medium Bodied but thin, High Carbonation, Malty, Sweet, and a light amount of strong alcohol. Overall Impression- The BEST wee heavy beer I’ve had yet! The richness and caramel character was great with the peaty ending. I HIGHLY recommend picking this up, at any cost. I’ll be enjoying this very soon again.

A heavy wee heavy. This one had some smoky elements, really distinct malt bill.
