This is our HMS Bounty Old Ale conditioned in Colorado whiskey barrels for six to seven months. Mellow oak, hints of vanilla and caramel, and a warming whiskey finish to take the flavor rich Old Ale on an epic second voyage ABV% 6.9 IBU’s 35

Pours a dark amber/copper color with a fairly sizable off-white head. Smells overwhelmingly of dark fruits such as prunes, plums, and raisins. There is a bit of whiskey and vanilla on the back end. Sweet caramel and brown sugar add to the cloyingness. The flavor is also intensely sweet. Heavy on the brown sugar, caramel, and toffee notes. Lots of dark fruit flavors with only minimal whiskey/barrel notes. Medium bodied with surprising carbonation for the style.

On tap at Hops and Pies poured a hazy reddish brown with a small lasting tan head. Aromas of oak, vanilla, carmel and light fruittiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of oak, vannilla, carmel, toffee and light fruittiness with a smooth dry lingering oak finish.

On-tap at the brewpub. A malty beverage, a bit much on the carbonation. Dark coloured, very lacey. A bit more than average mouthfeel, caramel. Drinkable.

Tap @ brewery. Maroon appearance with an off white head. Sour raspberries and cranberries, moderate booze, quite malty nose. Quite strong flavor- booze, rubbing alcohol, vanilla, red fruits, oak, some whiskey, malty flavor with booze and some hoppy bitterness on the finish.

Barrel Draught from the Jug at Dry Dock Brewing Company, Aurora 14/09/2010 Some whisky aroma. Mid brown coloured and very smooth on the palate with vanilla and oak flavours. Warming finish.

On tap @ Dry Dock. Murky deep copper brown, small bubbly light khaki head. I know it was aged in Stranahan’s Whiskey, but I smelled nothing but red wine and wood. Also smelled a little boozy. However, the taste was not very boozy or woody or even sourish. Pretty mellow whiskey tones on the flavor, which is a good thing. Shows knowledged restraint. Cane sugar, plums & raisins, maybe some whiskey soaked cherries. Not very harsh palate, but full on flavor. One of the best barrel aged beers I ever had.

Medium brown with a tan head. The aroma is full of whiskey, maple and molasses. The flavor is more complex but equally delicious. I get a lot of heavy sweet molasses character, as well as some oak, maple, whiskey and vanilla. There is also a light bit of alcohol and some caramel malt. Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation.

Tap at the brewery - turbid amb pour slight ring of lace - nose of caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, spicy oak, moderate whiskey, cherry, moderate oxidation - sweet and heavy on the vanilla up front, but becomes surprisingly more dry through the middle - moderate bitterness, light cherry fruitiness - a fair amount of oxidation, but it adds an earthy depth of character that fits the style well - oak is fairly apparent, but adds a seemingly appropriate spiciness - whiskey finish is not overpowering despite the 6 months in the barrel - me like.

Pours a thin beige head, with minimal lacing, over a clear light brown (SEM 18) body.....nose is light vanilla, minimal Bourbon, sweet malt with toffee/caramel, light dried fruits (cherry, raisin).....taste is dominated by sweet malts, with toffee/caramel, dried cherry, and light cola tones, minimal bitterness, vanilla and whiskey tones are muted, but present....mouth feel is light and sticky, carbonation low. This is very rich, with heavy malty sweetness and tones. It does not have all of the malty complexity of the biggest malt based beers, but would be pleasant on a cold day. BJCP 6/3/13/4/7
