corby112 (1904) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 16, 2011
Draft at Freshcraft in Denver, CO. Pours a dark golden yellowish orange color with pale golden yellow hues and a one finger soapy white head that slowly fades into a lasting rings. Chunks of soapy lacing left behind. Slightly earthy, funky aroma with a subtle barnyard presence as well as some bready yeast, zesty spice and crisp, light fruit. Hints of apple, pear and citrus peel. Medium bodied but a bit fuller than expected with a nice balance of earthy funk, lactic cream, zesty spice, bready yeast and crisp fruit. The lactic presence adds complexity and fullness to the palate. Hints of banana, apple, pear and range peel. Peppery with hints of clove, ester and alcohol sweetness. Complex, very well balanced and damn quaffable.

Bottle, 75cl, courtesy of Enjoyit. It pours a slightly hazy, golden body and a firm off-white head. A bit weak on the nose, slightly citrusy and with a pleasant maltyness. The flavor has pale malts, citrusy notes, bitterness and a yeasty hint. Full-bodied and nicely carbonated. Malty-sweet finish with pale malts, citrus, some bitterness and spice notes. A quite pleasant one, although a bit on the sweet side. 110129

Tap at Dry Dock - listed simply as "Saison" - very wheaty and tangy, as if they made a hefe and brewed it with a saison yeast - quite nice, though - a bit of subtle phenols and a mild earthiness - some tangy lime and lemon notes - a bit of dry, spicy character through the middle, getting stronger in the finish, as it ends on a kind of peppery note, with lingering lime flavors - good.

long day at work. this was an interesting one. first of all, why must the cage be so f’ing hard to untwist, this is not supposed to be ft knox. then the cork faught me. but after that it was better. nice golden pour, white head that lasted strong for the duration. fresh almost citrus nose with a low level sweetness. went with my shrimp and tots well. mild easy drinking with a nice buttermilk biscuit and honey with a nice lime and dry alcohol finish. i like this as a summer beer and will grab a few more bottles when i can.
