Pawola22 (2203) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 24, 2012
On tap at the brewery in Aurora, CO. Pours a cloudy, darker brown colored body with a finger-width, dense, creamy and frothy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is slightly malty sweet with some dark fruits. A bit of a breadiness with a light brown sugar and a touch of molasses. Some cherry-raisin, prune, and a touch of earth. Flavor is similar. Molasses stands out a bit more with a good amount of bready, medium sweet malts with some caramel cookies and a light chocolate. A moderate dark fruit note with more raisin than cherry-raisin and some prunes. A light toast towards the end with a bit of a tobacco and brown sugar before this finishes smooth and slightly dry with a light bitterness and chewy sweetness. Fairly lengthy aftertaste following a smooth, medium body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, I was a fan of this. Very smooth and soft malts with a nice dark fruitiness that finishes dry, but sweet and balanced. Good beer.

Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours a cloudy amber color with a medium thin off-white head that evaporates steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Toasted malt, caramel and mild hops in the nose. Medium body with a caramel malt character and notes of floral hops and fruit. The finish is grainy malt with a lingering sweetness. Decent overall.

UPDATED: JUL 7, 2011 Tap @ brewpub. Dark maroon colored body with a medium sized off white head. Sweet, dark fruity, mild wine-like nose with a hint of alcohol. Sweet, red fruity, mildly alcoholic flavor. Very smooth for an old ale but not as dynamic.

onceblind (1622) - Denver, Colorado, USA - NOV 15, 2010
UPDATED: NOV 23, 2010 On tap @ the brewery taproom on 11/12/10. The chalkboard indicated a 6.9% ABV with 35 IBU. Pours out a dark orange-ish brown, like a pumpkin ale but darker. Aroma of cocoa and nuts, so quite malty. Flavor is caramel and nuts, but a little too watery. Would have been great if the body was fuller. Nice balance though, with a sweet and clean finish.

Cask at the brewery - a very sweet old ale, with a lot of raisin, fig, plum and cherry - a bit of treacle - however, there is a bit of tartness through the middle, and even a slight hint of earthy, almost funky character that cuts these sweet notes quite well - a bit of chocolate covered cherry in the finish - lingering leathery earthiness - I like it.
