Not sure what’s up here. Murky, funky aroma, very nutty, odd hop profile, hint of alcohol on the finish is nice. Has that funky tap line taste, at tasting room. I love old ales, will rerate.

This beer is a lot like their poor Richard. It is , however, sweeter. I am not sure I like it that way.

On tap at the brewery, very true to style but I’m not a fan of the style. Overly sweet.

Cask. Pours clear ruby with average, fizzy off-white head; good retention and spare lacing. Aroma is figs, dates, floral notes, cookie malt, caramel, grass, and fresh dough. Flavor is balanced sweet malts and dark fruit esters with faint hops and light grassy notes; dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

On tap at the brewery in Aurora, CO. Pours a cloudy, darker brown colored body with a finger-width, dense, creamy and frothy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is slightly malty sweet with some dark fruits. A bit of a breadiness with a light brown sugar and a touch of molasses. Some cherry-raisin, prune, and a touch of earth. Flavor is similar. Molasses stands out a bit more with a good amount of bready, medium sweet malts with some caramel cookies and a light chocolate. A moderate dark fruit note with more raisin than cherry-raisin and some prunes. A light toast towards the end with a bit of a tobacco and brown sugar before this finishes smooth and slightly dry with a light bitterness and chewy sweetness. Fairly lengthy aftertaste following a smooth, medium body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, I was a fan of this. Very smooth and soft malts with a nice dark fruitiness that finishes dry, but sweet and balanced. Good beer.

Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours a cloudy amber color with a medium thin off-white head that evaporates steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Toasted malt, caramel and mild hops in the nose. Medium body with a caramel malt character and notes of floral hops and fruit. The finish is grainy malt with a lingering sweetness. Decent overall.
