segfault (74), Centennial, Colorado, USA May 25, 2006 Updated: May 26, 2006This English Old Ale really surprised me, drank on tap at the brewery. The pour was a deep reddish-brown with a small creamy head. In my nose I could detect only mild sweet malts and caramel with hints of some noble hop (Kent Goldings, I discovered by asking). The palate was nice and wet, creamy even. Very nice, delightful in fact - the palate is among the best of any beer I’ve had. On my tongue initally at the front I detected peaches, ester and mild citrus, quickly developing into a nice surprising thick raisiny plumminess reminiscent of port with a hint of roastiness. This could be a meal! The finish headed toward a mild bitterness and a hint of metallic on the back sides of my tongue, which did not linger very long. This is good stuff! Fits the BJCP style guidelines well. Kevin (1765), Colorado, USA Sep 20, 2006 tap at the brewery.

Aromas of maltiness, spice and a hint of brown sugar. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of malt, spice and a hint of molasses with a smooth dry semtsweet finish. goldtwins (3740), Nesconset, New York, USA Oct 30, 2006 Draft @ Falling Rock: Hazy dark amber color with a reddish hue and a beige head. The aroma was sweet with notes of dark fruits and some cherry. It reminded me of those cherry flavored cough drops that were oval and somewhat chewy. I forget their name. Semi-sweet flavor with dark fruits. Drier in the start and finish than the aroma. Medium smotth body. The_Beer_God (2856), Newport News, Virginia, USA Oct 7, 2006 Draft at Falling Rock. Called Dry Dock Old Ale. Copper bodied. Nose is malty with caramel notes. Very exquisite aroma. Dark fruits and some brown sugar. Taste is malts, caramel, dark fruits and some candyish sweetness.
