Pours unclear orange golden in color with a small bubbly off white head. The aroma is plenty of muted sweet and citrus notes that are pleasant on the nose. The flavor is similar, a bit of spicy hops with the 7 hops flavors blended well to bring smooth flavor on the palate.

Dry Dock is Aurora’s best kept secret - a small, incredibly active and lively brewery with spirit, vivaciousness, and a wall of awards that back up their success. One of my favorite beers from Dry Dock is their Double IPA which I had the pleasure of sampling with other Colorado Double/Imperial IPAs. It’s an orange marmalade color with a light thin foam on the top, allowing the aroma of graham rackers, marshmallow, pear and, oddly, banana baby food. It’s not at all bitter, but not cloyingly sweet. The Dry Dock Double IPA packs a lot of favor without indulging in excess, and that seems to be a hard thing to brew. It lacks the serious IBUs of a regular IPA, but delivers a deep, satisfying flavor of clover honey and sweet malt sugars on a slightly oily body with medium carbonation. While not the most complex Double IPA, Dry Dock is showing its flag with this beer - a harbinger of future awards and victories at beer competitions.

22oz bottle.
Pours a hazy golden orange with a small soapy white head.
Aroma is really nice with pineapples and lemons, hints of pine and a nice sugary sweet malt character.
The taste brings more grapefruit than the aroma and it’s sweet, almost sugar-coated, in character. There is a subtle malt backbone with the hops leaving a slightly bitter, floral finish.
The mouthfeel is sticky with hops and medium bodied overall.
I’m pretty impressed by this one. It’s one of the better DIPAs I’ve had lately with lots of citrus but still sweet and not overly bitter.

Bottle shared at Sam’s, Durham, at an event sometime in September. Thanks to whoever cracked this! Cloudy deep orange pour, with a substantial sticky head and a big piney nose. Initial impression was that this is a solid, by-the-numbers DIPA. I was impressed by the relatively restrained malt that provided some balance to the otherwise intense grapefruit and pine flavor profile. But it was nothing particularly memorable.

On tap at Falling Rock. A pale DIPA, golden-yellow and fairly hazy with a finger’s width of white head. Citric and herbal aroma with some lemony notes and even a bit of yeast, with sweet malt. Sweet pale malt base on the flavor, maybe even some wheat, with light fruit, tangerine, lemon, and resin. Not as hoppy as it probably should be, but not bad. Medium-plus bodied with some hop oils and medium-plus carbonation. Not too shabby overall, but I’ve had far better in this style.
