Cask at the brewery - now listed at 8.5% abv - hazy orange - lasting, soapy head - still on the sweet end of the spectrum, but with plenty of earthy hop flavor and bitterness to keep it from being overly so - copious citrus and pineapple flavors make the sweetness more welcome as well - bitterness is strong without being astringent - fairly well crafted and surprisingly non-abrasive for the style.

Tap. Pours clear gold with average, fizzy white head; good retention and some lacing. Aroma is grassy and floral hops, cereal and biscuit malt, citrus fruit, pine, herbs, and faint funk. Flavor is balanced malt and hops (light bitterness) with faint citrus esters; dry finish. Medium body, carbonation, and warmth.

Poured into a tulip glass from a bomber. Sparkling orange colored with a mid-sized off-white head. Big citrus and pine notes. Flavor was quite piney with the aforementioned citrus notes. Nicely balanced sweetness with bittering hops. Mild bitter finish. Very nice.

Orange colored, light camel colored head, and cloudy. The smell was piney at first, tropical fruits, hops of course, some malt background, and sweetness. The taste us hops, fruit, sweet, touch of alcohol, pine, and fruit.

Bottle shared by a friend. Clear amber pour with a thin white head. Citrusy nose with notes of potato and grassy hops. Malty flavor with caramel character before a grassy hop finish.

Orange pour with watery white head and lace. Citrus hops and bread aroma. Sweet caramel malt and a grapefuity bitter finish. Medium full bodied with good carbonation. Pretty nice

Bomber to tulip at Euclid Hall. Poured a golden orange with a small head that quickly dissipated, very good lacing, however. The aroma is great with smells of citrus and pine. Thin body with tastes of citrus, pine, caramel, and a touch of alcohol. Nice bitter finish, solid DIPA.

Pours unclear orange golden in color with a small bubbly off white head. The aroma is plenty of muted sweet and citrus notes that are pleasant on the nose. The flavor is similar, a bit of spicy hops with the 7 hops flavors blended well to bring smooth flavor on the palate.

Dry Dock is Aurora’s best kept secret - a small, incredibly active and lively brewery with spirit, vivaciousness, and a wall of awards that back up their success. One of my favorite beers from Dry Dock is their Double IPA which I had the pleasure of sampling with other Colorado Double/Imperial IPAs. It’s an orange marmalade color with a light thin foam on the top, allowing the aroma of graham rackers, marshmallow, pear and, oddly, banana baby food. It’s not at all bitter, but not cloyingly sweet. The Dry Dock Double IPA packs a lot of favor without indulging in excess, and that seems to be a hard thing to brew. It lacks the serious IBUs of a regular IPA, but delivers a deep, satisfying flavor of clover honey and sweet malt sugars on a slightly oily body with medium carbonation. While not the most complex Double IPA, Dry Dock is showing its flag with this beer - a harbinger of future awards and victories at beer competitions.
