Tap at Vine st. Dark black with a thin foamy chocolate-milk-hued head. Aroma is a little hard to discern, but has a lot of dark roasty malts, smells kinda chewy and sweet with a subtle brown sugar tone. Lovely dark flavor with sweet bitter chocolate, a touch of booziness, roasted black grains, gentle smokiness, and some toasted/near burnt toffee on the finish. Has some bitterness under it all to try to balance it, but the bitterness is all in the mouthfeel, not the flavor. Bitterness in the finish as well with a dark malty tone of smokey chocolate toffee.

draft at Southern Sun. inky licorice and soy cause nose with dark chocolate syrup and mild to moderate roast. soft, chewy, almost silky and syrupy texture. medium to heavy body is appropriately thick, sweetness is medium to high, bitterness low, acid low. dark chocolate syrup with mild plum / cherry esters and and enjoyable inky-oiliness throughout.

Sample on tap the brewery, pour was dark brownish black with thin tan head, aroma brought big notes of dark fruit, plums, molasses and anise, slight notes of caramel in there as well. Taste is a nice mix of caramel, vanilla, going into roasted and sweet dark fruits, some anise notes in there finished fairly dry but a bit sweet.

Tap. Pours opaque with a medium tan head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, and roast malt, licorice, dark fruit, earthy and woody hops, and vanilla notes. Flavor is malt dominant, light hops, medium bitterness, dark esters and a sweet palate with a dry finish. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation.
