COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From label: 2011. Malty and complex, this big beer has a strong caramel backbone supporting oak and whiskey flavors with hints of dark fruits. The nose wafts coconut, toffee and a smooth hint of alcohol. The flavor and aroma merge, becoming one after a single sip. There is a touch of bitterness and it will age well. ----------------- Additional notes (not on label / from brewer): Dry Dock Brewery will only produce 120 cases of this beer. it will be released the first week of October. Bligh’s Barleywine Ale will be only the second seasonal beer that Dry Dock has bottled. Its first, Apricot Blonde, came out in June and will be off the shelves by the end of September. A third seasonal, Wee Heavy Scotch Ale, is slated for release on November 14. All are sold in 22-ounce bomber bottles.

Bottle generously shared at the 2014 Pre-Hunahpu Thursday Tasting. Pours a burnt caramel color with a white head. Nose is big caramel, slight oak, bourbon, toffee, vanilla, and coconut with definite booze. Flavor is similar with equal parts love and bourbon, vanilla, booze, toffee, coconut, oak, and booze. Medium in body and all kinds of delicious.

[Bottle / 2011] Thanks, Mike. Nearly opaque, copper-y brown-ish body with not much of a head at all, barely even a thin beige ring forms at the edges. Aroma has some rich caramel candies up front with light whiskey, red licorice, toffee, & a bit of sherry-esque oxidation. Taste is full of caramel covered burnt toast, whiskey soaked dates & raisins, butterscotch, & a lingering, brown sugar finish. Booze is apparent, front to back; quite potent, a little menacing at times. Slight oxidation in the aftertaste, but nothing too off-putting. Thick, heavy, mouth coating body. A good barleywine, but nothing more.

2011 bottle thanks to mrebeks for sharing. Cloudy reddish-brown pour with very little head. Aromas are caramel, toffee, coconut, raisins, and sugary candy. Taste has a moderate to strong sweetness. Coconut and caramel is the strongest but there’s vanilla and raisins too. Tastes a tad oxidized. Thick body and a syrupy mouthfeel. Slight alcohol in the finish. Decent barley wine. Probably better a year or two ago.

Bottle: The aroma consists of caramel, toffee, grain, mint, coconut, and light bourbon. It pours a transparent orangish-brown with a minimal beige head. The flavor starts with caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. The finish has light coconut, vanilla, and a touch of bourbon. It’s medium-full bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat sticky mouthfeel.

Tap at hops and pie. Hazy red amber with no head. Aromas of caramel, dark fruit, honey, whiskey, light vanilla and booze. Flavor is sweet caramel, plum, and honey, light vanilla and some warming whiskey on the end. Medium bodied, with a lingering dark fruit.

22 ounce shared bottle. Pours a cloudy reddish brown with a very small tan head. Aroma of malt, fruit, caramel, and whiskey. Taste is caramel malt, dark fruit, whiskey, and wood. On the sweet side. Nice.

As others have said, very little carbonation and head, disappears immediately. No matter, it's amazing. Toffee and coconut, sweet aroma with a hint of the booze and barrel. Flavor is like the aroma, sweet with just a little bitterness right at the end. Sweet and boozy in the best way. Syrupy and sticky. A very very good BA barleywine, well done Dry Dock. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. There is a huge coconut aroma, bourbon, toffee, sugar. The flavor is toffee, bourbon, dried fruits, brown sugar, sweet coconut. This its not the prettiest beer, cloudy, no head, but still tasty.

Pours dirty, murky brown with no head. Aroma of bourbon, sugar, and booze. Taste is the same with dark fruit and feel of a port wine with whiskey taste. Very nice.

Poured from 22oz bottle. Pours a murky brown dolor with no head at all. Aroma is coconut, toffee and bourbon. Taste follows with a lot of sweetness and a huge rye character. I liked it, but didn’t love it like most of my other BA barleywines.
