COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From label: 2011. Malty and complex, this big beer has a strong caramel backbone supporting oak and whiskey flavors with hints of dark fruits. The nose wafts coconut, toffee and a smooth hint of alcohol. The flavor and aroma merge, becoming one after a single sip. There is a touch of bitterness and it will age well. ----------------- Additional notes (not on label / from brewer): Dry Dock Brewery will only produce 120 cases of this beer. it will be released the first week of October. Bligh’s Barleywine Ale will be only the second seasonal beer that Dry Dock has bottled. Its first, Apricot Blonde, came out in June and will be off the shelves by the end of September. A third seasonal, Wee Heavy Scotch Ale, is slated for release on November 14. All are sold in 22-ounce bomber bottles.

22 oz. bottle, pours a cloudy mahogany with a small beige head. Nose is complex with notes of whiskey barrels, toffee, caramel, and dark fruits. Flavour is similar, with wood, whiskey, dark fruits, and toffee. Amazing coherence of flavours, with no hint of oxidation. Fantastic stuff.

On tap at Old Chicago on College. Appearance: finger of tan head, soil brown color, cloudy, good lacing. Aroma: raisin, earthy and musty, alcohol, oak-y, molasses. Palate: full body, oily texture, soft carbonation, alcohol warming on the finish. Taste: sweet raisin and molasses malt that carries and stays very earthy into an alcoholic taste and finish that balances the drink out. Overall, alcohol comes through quite a bit, but it helps with the balance. Really enjoyable beer in small amounts, 12 oz. pour was too much for me.

"Toffee and whiskey up front on the nose. Woody, sweet, like a whisky flavored cookie. Not a whole lot of complexity, but it’s damn tasty (and a little on the boozy flat side of things). Despite it’s faults it was quite good. If they could add a touch more complexity (hops) and carbonation, this would be epic."

Bottle thanks to LeninCat. Pour is initially flat with the carbonation rising up to firm a small off white head. Dark red to light brown in color. Aromas of vanilla, lots of toffee, this shit smells chewy. Taste is light toast with some crust. Light vanilla and sweetness. Medium mouthfeel. Somewhat chewy. Dangerously drinkable initially. Light booziness. Pretty damn good.

Bomber. Dark Amber with off white head. Heavy whiskey and oak notes with toffee aromas. Super chewy and rich. Residual sweetness with a wood hint. Bright, clean and well balanced. Great barley wine.

Bottle share at Tribes Alehouse. Pour is dark brown with slight red tints and a small tan ring-of-a-head. Aroma and flavor of raisins, cinnamon, vanilla bean, smoke, leather, caramel, and bourbon. Finish is very bitter, almost overwhelming for the style.

Bomber from CO brother, shared with others at family holiday weekend. This is good. Lighter brownish. Lowly carbonatd. Fruity chocolate with bourbon. More boozy in the end where it became a sipper. Thanks Ken!
