COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From label: 2011. Malty and complex, this big beer has a strong caramel backbone supporting oak and whiskey flavors with hints of dark fruits. The nose wafts coconut, toffee and a smooth hint of alcohol. The flavor and aroma merge, becoming one after a single sip. There is a touch of bitterness and it will age well. ----------------- Additional notes (not on label / from brewer): Dry Dock Brewery will only produce 120 cases of this beer. it will be released the first week of October. Bligh’s Barleywine Ale will be only the second seasonal beer that Dry Dock has bottled. Its first, Apricot Blonde, came out in June and will be off the shelves by the end of September. A third seasonal, Wee Heavy Scotch Ale, is slated for release on November 14. All are sold in 22-ounce bomber bottles.

22oz bottle, 2011 release, via trade on BA. pours a hazy, murky, cherry-wood color topped by a razor thin, eggshell head that leaves a tight ring of lace around the edges. aroma takes some time to open up, but when it does, it’s great with heavy notes of rich caramel, pralines, coconut cream pie, and toasted barrel integrating with sweet fruit notes of red apple, black cherry, dates, and raisins with hints of spiced banana bread and oaked bourbon as it warms in the glass. flavor is almost a carbon copy of the aroma with rich, sweet notes of pralines, vanilla custard, toasted coconut, and toasted oak up followed by the essence of fruitcake with raisins, figs, cherries, apple skins, and spiced nuts just ahead subtle, smokey bourbon. palate is full bodied with very light carbonation and a dry, fruity, lightly woody finish. overall, a damn nice barrel aged barleywine.

Bomber from Davidson’s Liquor. Pours a deep red / brown with a small off white head. Sweet whiskey nose with apple, caramel, dark fruits and vanilla. Med body with big whiskey barrel notes, vanilla, apple, sweet caramel malts and raisin. Sweet finish with lingering vanilla and apple notes. A bit sharp on the finish.

650ml bottle. It is a gusher for some reason. It pours murky brown with reddish hues and a fizzy tannish white head.. The smell is nice. There is a fruitiness running through it that is beautiful and reminds me of J.W. Lees. The oak and bourbon scents are also there, not overpowering, which I like. The alcohol is there, adding a perfume that melds with the bourbon. The flavor is pretty good. A lot of flavors combine for a luscious flavor. Nothing seems overpowering. There is a nice combo of vanilla, caramel, and bourbon that really seems to be the backbone. There is also a hint of bitterness and a big hit of dark fruits. This one is a bit cloying and hot at times but overall a great beer.

Bottle shared by cptnspeed1...thanks Brad! - Pours reddish brown with a thin tan head. Lots of vanilla and sweet whiskey notes. A bit of heat and lots of brown sugar. A little sharp initially on the taste, but it mellows out pretty well into a sweet whiskey mellowness with a syrupy caramel flavor. Very smooth and decadent. Definitely a sipper, and definitely a dessert beer. Good stuff.

Bottle courtesy of kkrez. Served in a SAVOR wine glass. Pours a medium brown color with a good off-white head and a nice bit of a tan collar. The nose carries some pretty good bourbon with some caramel in the background. Flavor carries a nice bit of bourbon and oak with caramel there as well. Not too many characters but a great combination. Quite well done, but not an amazing bourbon barrel barleywine, though that includes the best of the best.

2011 Vintage
Tasted in November 2011 with the Nashville crew, big thanks to CurtisMacArthur for sharing this one. Pours an opaque dark brown with an average tan head that slowly recedes to an average collar of lace. The nose is full of caramel, brown sugar, and toffee, with dark raisin, vanilla and cinnamon oak, and some heat. The flavor is lightly sweet with all of the caramel, brown sugar, and toffee from the nose, with whiskey, vanilla, and just a hint of some dark earth. The body is full and has an oily texture, with light carbonation and a long whiskey, vanilla, and caramelized finish.
