3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Indra (2482) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - FEB 5, 201322oz. bottle, 2012 vintage. Incredibly fragrant aroma, with notes of toasted coconut, toffee, brown sugar, vanilla, whiskey, toasted bread, and dried fruit (dates), very complex and interesting. Thoroughly hazy amber-brown in color, with a sparse tan head. Flavor profile is malty, fruity, sweet and full of oak, vanilla, toffee and whiskeyish notes, some faint cherry and raisin, plenty of lingering dark sugars late, and finishing with a dash of bitterness and alcohol. Smooth, lightly syrupy mouthfeel, warming and low in effervescence, body is massive. Really indulgent stuff. Thanks to Scott!
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 jbrana (89) - NASHVILLE, Tennessee, USA - JUN 9, 2013
Very sweet with strong flavors of caramel, bourbon, cookies, brown sugar, and raisins. Very rich and complex with minimal hop presence. Slightly less carbonated than I would like, but overall a really great barleywine.

Bottle at home. Pour is murky brownish-amber with little-to-no head. Big toffee, caramel, light coconut, a hint of vanilla, somewhat nutty, figs, raisins, and almonds in the aroma. Taste is big figs, dark fruits, with a touch of spice and coconut through the middle, with lighter notes of sweet caramel and brown sugar, ending with a light alcoholic bite on the backend. Slick mouthfeel with almost no carbonation. Not a bad barley wine, and isn’t overpowered by the barrel treatment, at all, but the fact that it barely has carbonation really hurts it IMO.

Bottle from a great trader in CO. Nice amber color with not much head. Scent and aroma is a lot of caramel, finishes a tad harsh.

This beer represents much of what I dislike about bad barleywines. As good as the style can be, if they become toffee and plum bombs, no amount of hops and alcohol will cover it up.

2012 bottle. Enjoyed over the course of the Super Bowl. Very solid BABW. Very little short head. Nose of sweet malt, caramel, toffee, and maybe a touch of vanilla. Taste follows the nose with lots of toffee and sweetness (not cloying at all though). Fairly mild on the wood and booze. Amazing as a 10% abv. Dare I say "balanced". As typical much more enjoyable as it warms. Maybe just a tad thin.

22 oz bottle shared by scotter. The pour is a brown golden, hazed, with not much of a head. The aroma is warming caramel, toffee, brown sugar and an almost buttery softness. The taste is the sweet caramel, toffee and brown sugar malt, along with a floral perfume character. The palate is medium to heavy bodied, with a soft natural carbonation, and a sweet lingering finish. Nice integration of the booze, nice Barley Wine. Thanks for sharing this one Scott.
