Fine head & white lace; hazy yellow-greenish beer. Coriander!!!... fake lemon, ureum. Coriander!! and a bit of malt/wheatsugars. Citrussy, lame. Spritzy, empty, light; Oh dear. Calling this atrocity saison is a crime.

Maker: Brasserie Du Bocq, Punode-Yvoir, Belgium *** Beer: Du Bocq Saison 1858 (bottled, unfiltered 330ml) *** Style: Saison *** ALC.VOL.: 6.4% *** Colour: Hazy pale yellow with a big, white, fluffy head. *** Nose: Lemon, yeast, hints of spices. *** Texture: Light body, still watery. Modest carbonation. *** Taste: Dry at first. Lemon, hops, yeast, spices. Still dry, and now a bit sour, too - in the middle. Increasingly yeasty towards the finish, very lemony still, with spices and hints of resin. More bitter than before. Lemony and yeasty aftertaste. *** Impressions: A bit too lightweight for my taste, also not too much depth of flavour. Plesantly lemony, and some nice hints of spices (coriander).

Bottle share at Chriso’s. 6.4%, BB May 2016. Hazy pale orange, still, small foamy white head. Aroma is elderflower and grape. Body is medium to light, tingly carbonation, a little foamy. Taste is biscuity, soft citrus with an earthy, peppery finish. Decent saison.

I must admit I was a little worried because the bottle was only 4.99. Really good though.

bomber - nose is yeast, wheat and lemon zest with slight spice, perhaps coriander or black pepper. drinks like a witbier with saison qualities. light but surprised this is a 6.4% ABV beverage. Reminds me a lot of Rare Vos by Ommegang and that for me a huge compliment.

Bottle at the Royal Café In Antwerp. Pale golden, gassy, with a great billowing head. Very nice citrus aroma, with a hint of wheat. Bitter, plenty of body, and very enjoyable. Would have it again.

Aroma: pale grain malts, yeast, wheat, light citrus. Appearance: hazy gold, massive, creamy, white head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: sweet malts, ripe citrus fruits, some bitters coming up, soft carbonation. Overall: OK Saison, quite citrussy. Pint at The Hanging Bat, Edinburgh.

Bottle at Pre-GBBF Shindig 2015. It pours cloudy gold with a thick white head. The nose is doughy, wood, cracker, earth and spice. The taste is crisp, bitter, sort of sweet, minerals, green apple, pear, melon, spice, straw and leather with a dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. A bit simple and sweetish. Ho hum.

750 from Total Wine.

Light straw colored pour, hazy with a nice white head. Pretty restrained aroma, some light esters, quite dusty, a bit of pepper, some spice that you’d find on a roll, is it oregano? Thyme? Quite refreshing flavor, thin and sparkling with the essence of lemon but no real tartness, feeling like 5% rather than 6.4%. A really pleasant beer that I’m very happy to savor this evening. It’s great to have some of these classic Belgian saisons showing up in our stores. I don’t remember how this one was priced, but if it wasn’t too much more than Saison Dupont it would be good to rotate into the mix every now and then.

Pre GBBF tasting at Chris and Ruth’s. Hazy gold beer, good fluffy white head. Palate is airy and semi dry. Decent fine carbonation. Light and mildly sweet malts. Sweetish floralness. Mild lemon seltzer. A light and fairly crisp finish brings some sweet yeast. Fine but never really takes off.
