Pleasant aroma of resinous, citrusy hops with toasted malt. Pours a murky amber color with a medium offwhite head. Good flavor of resinous, citrusy hops with toasted, nutty malt and bitterness in the end. The body is medium with a creamy texture and medium carbonation. Well-done, I like that the hops feel crunchy and crisp.

Thick collapsing cream-coloured head over cloudy, dark-amber beer with a mossy shine; very carbonated. Thick, oxydized malts, old cookies, dried-out and re-wetted. Again oxydized malts in the taste, prematurely aged. Slick, with a wry bitterness in teh aftertaste. God, this isn’t even very good for a homebrew. Big thanks to CK!

Bouteille de 500 ml. La bière se présente avec une couleur acajou-orangée et un beau col de mousse imposant et durable. Au nez on respire des arômes de houblon floral et citronné sur fond de caramel. En bouche le corps est moyen avec une effervescence moyenne. On goûte des saveurs de grain caramélisé au départ, vient ensuite des saveurs légèrement sucrées de caramel et pour finir une amertume rappelant des saveurs de pin et de citron.

A thick 1-inch head with varying size bubbles covers the deep amber hue. A tiny touch of sourdough betrays the high yeast presence, but otherwise, it’s not as one-dimensional as some of their other beers. A toasty, earthy and gently nutty offering with firm and growing bitterness producing pleasant leafy notes in the long and inviting finish. Firm body despite the active carbonation. The extra bitterness actually increased drinkability and removed the exagerated yeast focus.

Bouteille de 500 ml dégustée directement à la brasserie. Arôme: Odeur d’agrumes avec une pointe fruitée. Apparence: La couleur est ambrée foncée voilée. Présence d’un moyen col crémeux beige et d’une large dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût d’agrumes avec une pointe de pin. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture huileuse. Moyenne effervescence en bouche. Légère amertume en arrière goût. (Rating #2003)

My Bottom Line:
The multifarious hoppiness of this India Pale Ale swerves from citrusy fruitiness to piney greenness before a sturdy earthy bitterness settles onto the tongue. Malts only show support, but it’s not like we were asking them to do much more.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A tower of foam overlooks the cloudy and dull dark orange.
-The highly unfiltered nature of this pint feels like a detriment to the flavor profile at times.
-The body is svelte and the effervescence comfortable, making this a quaffable IPA.
-Malts are almost crisp, but do not offer much in the way of distinct flavors.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2009 Bouteille de 500 ml, à la brasserie de Saint-Gédéon. Version spéciale de la Boutefeu, avec une extra dose de houblon. Arômes fruités et citronnés. Robe rousse foncée, belle mousse et belle effervescence. En bouche, des notes fruitées accompagnent un solide malt caramel et mènent à une finale houblonnée (florale et citronnée) bien amère. Bien bon!
