Keg dispense at Dice Bar, Dublin. Pours a copper red colour with a decent enough head, lacing is light throughout. Holy Jesus this smells poor - granny’s over-boiled some veggies and left them out there on the stove to ripen...and a bit of caramel. Christ. Taste doesn’t get much better - stewed veggies, caramel malt, slight herb, cardboard. Aftertaste is swift (thankfully) with a slight herby hop flavour lingering alongside a touch of caramel and a load of weird off-flavours. Irish micro-brewing at its very worst (i’m not too fond of this style at its very best to be fair); there’s a reason this is only available in one location in the city, do yourself a favour and buy a bag of chips instead.

This brewery is alive again and calling itself Big Hand Brewery and only brews for Dice Bar. Appearance: Ruby red, small white head. Aroma: turnips, malt, plastic, quite a ’home brew’ aroma. Not great. A little sad that I have a whole pint. Flavour: Nutty, cabbage, lots of caramel, weird, almost cake like. I don’t know. Odd.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep mahogany color with an off white head. Sweet malt and caramel taste. More of the same in the flavor. Spicy hop finish. Brought back from Ireland and cellared for 3 years. Not quite as good as I remembered. I had heard that Dublin Brewing went out of business and this is the first review for this beer in a year and a half. Anyone know if they are still brewing?

UPDATED: JUN 13, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) Reddish, almost red-brown beer with a weak but creamy head. Dry and bitter but very refreshing. Has the same slightly perfumy notes as the other Dublin Brewing beers. 030401

Great beer! Had a glass on vacation while in Dublin. Wish I could get it here. Deep amber/mahogany color. Thick head with light lacing at the end. Wish I could have gotten another pint of it before I had to go home!

Deep amber color with little to no head. Flavor was slightly sweet and very toasty. Bitterness holds sweetness in check.

Amber colour with fine aroma of malt and caramel, and a nice flavor with roasted malts and some cocoa.
