3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500 ml bottle, as Duchy Originals Organic Select Ale, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Also available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6.2%. Clear and deep amber colour, moderate off-white head. Fairly strong and sweetish aroma with vinous and fruity notes (dates, figs), also notes of malts, pastry and caramel. The mouthfeel is fairly rich and full. The flavour is malty but not very sweet, earthy notes, some toffee and caramel, with fruity hops in the finish, leaving a decent bitterness in the aftertaste. Not bad at all.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled, 500ml from Waitrose, Witney. Dark amber with white head. Full fruity, malty beer, a little syrupy perhaps. Notes of plum and toffee, caramac, some hop in the finish giving length to the beer.Overall fairly reasonable without resorting to the out & out sweetness for some English Strongs.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tasted 30/10/2008, 500ml bottle from Regionals, while tending to the pilot batch of Yeastie Boys ’Kid Chocolate’. Very very similar to the Organic beer from the same line but with a more pronounced plummy note and less hop character (flavour and bitterness). Again, I think this would be a little better close to home - it tastes pretty tired.

1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
UPDATED: DEC 6, 2008 Bottle - Select Ale - from Sainsbury’s. Dark amber colour with off-white head looks great - it’s all downhill from there, however. Aroma mostly of caramel malt. Thin body for the ABV. Dull and boring with an unpleasant, chemical aftertaste.
