Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks troubles. Clear amber. Aroma of metal, vegetables, malt and a bit of toastiness. Sweetish flavor with malt and a slightly drier finish with a bit of metallic hints. Light-bodied.

This beer spoke to me in the words of Goethe: "Du gleichst dem Geist den du begreifst - nicht mir." (Faust I). Nah, seriously: That’s probably what people who drink this regularly are like. It tastes like a mediocre pils, nothing special about it. It’s very pretentious in its fancy bottle with its pseudo-intellectual motto on the back of the bottle. The high price it costs is not worth it.

On draught at Anne’s Café in Lüneburg, amber with a fluffy fast-disappearing head and a malty nose with a fruity tang. Palate is well balanced malt and bitter, and a little roasted nut and caramel, the gentle bitterness lasting into the aftertaste.

50 cl. bottle @ home. Amber with a white head full of tiny bubbles. Earthy malty aroma with a slightly metallic taste. Not the experience the bottle promises.

Yeah, the bottle looks nice. But that’s it. Clear amber color. Lively carbonation and very light body. Malty flavour of nuts, bitter aftertaste. Somehow it has some metallic notes in it. I really expected a lot more from this brew.

August 2006 on BA: First tried this at a Beer Exchange near Cologne in 2003. Drank it again last month in Cochem, a wine tourist town on the Mosel. It is not the same drink! The flavour appears to have gone, it smelt and looked the same, but it was not as thick or tasty as I thought I remembered. I used the same bar three different days for this review, but it still would not return to its former glory, hence my poor marks.

Originally rated June 2004. Comes in a nice 500ml brown bottle, with a seal around the cap written "Garanteed to be beechwood matured". Pours an amber colour and a nice bubbly head just like the Lowenbrau I had tonight (except it was beige). Aromas of sweet malts. Has a dry bitterness and a sweet finish. For and altbier, I do prefer Magnotta Brewery Classic Altbier.

Bottle from mein-bier.de as Duckstein original. Dark amber color with small white head. Malty aroma with earthy notes. Taste, caramel, roasted malt, woody hints. Bitter finish. Drinkable beer.
