33cl bottle Appearance: Clear reddish Amber, with a small white head. Aroma: Light smoky smell, light grainy, some malts. Taste: Burned grains, burned malts caramelised malts, ashy tones, bitter herbal hops, some maple syrup and then it becomes totally boring in te finish. light to medium body, slick mouthfeel, soft carbonation, Unbalanced alt, which seems to compromise unbalancedness with blendness. Dissapointing.

Not sure whether this is my first Altbier ever, but if not, I would not be surprised. It is totally unremarkable. I’m sure the style must have something which is less boring than this...

Very good bier. I enjoyed it while watching USA vs. Denmark. The result of the bier was better than the result of the match for the USA.

bartlebier (2426) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - FEB 22, 2015
50cl bottles, 2006-2015, latest bb11/2015. Ere-characteristic Harzian speciality, a lean beachwood amber ale with a malt profile distantly akin to Spéciale Belge, now contract brewed by Carlsberg subsidiary Lübzer in the East as a macro Alt. Nose of Ikea wood, dried supermarket caramel syrup, glue. Curtailed amber malt aromatics, hampered by unpleasant bitter herbal hops, going on metallic pollen, medicinal roots and earsmear. Picks up in the mid part, hinting at apple tarte and maple syrup, before drifting off into macro nomansland again, leaving an unpleasant finish. Had fond memories of this as Braunschweig’s once only tasty beer option, but the recipe seems to have changed. Slightly more creamy, with honey and toasted notes and more balanced on (very rare) draught, but more recently a premium-priced filtered disaster.

Bottle; pours clear amber with a beige head; light aroma of malt, caramel, hops and a hint of fruit; taste is slightly sweet with malt and caramel; light bitter and dry finish; not the most exciting beer but decent enough
