Skeegle (293), USA May 10, 2008 Updated: May 29, 2008 It has a very stouty aroma that is pleasant, and it looks like a porter, perhaps lighter than a stout. I was a bit, er, past my prime when I tried this so I’m going from unreliable memory here. There was a nutty flavour in this one, pleasantly nutty, like roasted sunflower seeds. It added a salty taste to the beer which I really liked. This beer had excellent drinkability but the body was a bit thin, though that only added to the drinkability. A very nice and soft ale.
dpjuart (520), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 22, 2008 7/16/08 - Draft sample at Bowie location. Black/brown with red hues and a rimming, eggshell head. Nose is sweet caramel and chocolate. Taste is much the same with good mouth feel. Best offering the location had. mwelsh13 (90), Maryland, USA Jul 18, 2008 Draft pint at Arundal Mills location. Deep brown. Very thin. No aroma and carbonation. A little sour. Like the bartender said, " A dark beer to make you look cool if you do not REALLY like dark beer." Tasted like Bad Moon Porter light. TURDFERGUSON (1021), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Jul 17, 2008 Growler, shared by wickedpete. Thanks Pete! Nose was roasty and slightly hoppy with a bit of fruit. Had the makings of a good schwarzbier, but I found the body to be a little on the watery side. Good cocoa, roasted malt, slightly smokey flavors. beachbum25 (583), Powellville, Maryland, USA May 15, 2008 On tap @ Arundel Mills-Black color w/a moderate tan head & good lacing. Looked kind of like a cola in the glass. Had a light roasted malt flavor w/a lot of carbonation, also traces of caramel & chocolate. Reminded me of a Porter, but watered down & with a lot more carbonation. It wasn’t a bad change of pace brew, but I would drink the Porter over this. sloth (1491), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA May 13, 2008 Draft @ the Belair pub. Small tan head with fair retention and minimal lacing. An almost black brew with some ruby highlights showing when held to the light. Nose is lightly roasty, mineraly, faintly chocolatey and smokey. Body is lightly medium, somewhat thin with some black malt like astringency, ok though. Light roast flavors, grain, smoke notes, bitter sweet chocolate notes and a hint of caramel also. Fairy dry, lightly roasty finish.
