COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
No force in heaven or on earth can save you from this unholy barley wine style ale, aged in an oak bourbon barrel to add notes of vanilla, caramelized sugar and charred oak to the beer’s sensual fruit esters, mighty malt backbone and demonic hop presence. Prepare to lose yourself, palate and soul, to the inescapable seduction of... hell on wood.

Dark orange/ruby pour into snifter with thin white head - this is a noteably beautiful beer. Aroma of fruit/malt/bourbon. Taste is much of the same, but the beer has a bit of an off-bite or edge, but I would suspect that a year or so of aging could solve that issue entirely. Otherwise a very solid bourbon barrel aged barleywine. It’s in the same league as Central Waters, but falls a bit short of the Victory Oak Horizontal or Sucaba.

22 oz. bottle. 2012 vintage. There is no mention of Heaven Hill on the label. Pours a clear ruby color with a smallish beige head. Grapefruits, caramel, bourbon, an oaky woodsiness, plums, and vanilla extract feature strongly in the aroma. Goes down medium-bodied and slightly syrupy. Quite sweet upfront in the taste with plenty of caramel and overly ripe plums. Brown sugar. Lots of creamy vanilla and a little shortbread in the middle. Boozy flavors. A charred oaky woodsy presence and a touch of citrus at the end. A good dose of warming alcohol and a cloying sweetness throughout. Nicely done, just WAY too sweet for my taste.

Bottle shared at Intuition during RBWG 2013. Pours clear gold with a fine, white cream head. Sweet malt nose with honey, vanilla and caramel. Big sweet flavor, sugary, boozy, lots of bread, mild oxidation. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, light dry and ripe fruits, sweet bready malts. NIce stuff overall.

Bomber 2011 vintage courtesy of Beerand Blues2 (thanks Brad!) poured a clear reddish amber with a lingering ring of amber foam. Aromas of bourbon, toffee, plum, raisin, light carmel and light oak. 22 oz bottle - 2012 vintage. Pours clear, crimson gold with thin, diminishing tan-white head. Big aromas of toasty vanilla, sweet oak, oranges, caramel, and maple goodness. Thick bouquet. Taste is all orangey whiskey, good vanilla and bourbon notes, well-balanced with hint of burn in the middle. Medium-full bodied, touch sticky, but nice dry finish. Finishes with distinct whiskey note. Well done, nice warmer. Not over the top, but delicious.
