The name says it all! This unique brew comes in officially at 21.92% abv. This was accomplished by the use of 3 different strains of yeast and a lot of TLC. Technically an ale, but this monster has complex flavors and aromas that suggests characteristics of mead and fruit wines. Be sure to sample Colossus at several different temperatures including heated. That’s right!...heat it up to about 105’F for yet another unique experience of flavors and aromas! 2006 is the swing top bottle and 2011 is the 22 oz. bottle.

Interesting, lots of malty-sweetness to this. Honey is first on the palate. I feel like this is mead like in design. Very sweet and heavy on the palate. No alcohol though.

Nocturne (1805) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - OCT 31, 2013
650ml bottle. Pours out a mostly clear semi-dark amber. An initial head fades to nothing. Big aroma of raisin, toffee, almost Belgian, almost spirit-like. Massive malty taste with the elements of the aroma. Ultra sticky, massive lingering medicinal twang. Even though it’s obviously huge, there’s little alcohol burn and dare I say it’s actually quite well hidden (for the strength, anyway). Masterfully done in that sense. Drank the whole thing myself which I probably wouldn’t recommend!

In line @ Darkness Day 2013. Pours red/brown with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate, dark fruits, boozy. Flavor is caramel, dark fruits, chocolate. Very little booze flavor for 22%. Not bad at all.

MrChopin (4303) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - OCT 27, 2013
hazy amber, thinnest white head, faint oily top. Toasty almond and dust nose, pleasantly soft, expecting far worse. Hot flavor, thin and burning with cane sugar elements. Stinging ethanol burns, so thin, sugar burning throat.

Pours a cola brown with zero head. Legs like a scotch. Nose of honey and booze, a little brandy, some spice. Flavor is sweet, earthy, boozy, brandy, pear, honey. Boozy, hot finish.

Bottle. Hazy amber color, almost flat. Aroma is medicinal, vegetal. Taste is sticky burnt caramel.

Bottle thanks to Beerandblues2. Poured a clear amber color, absolutely no head. Flavor is sweet malts, some smooth barrel type notes, sweetness, caramel, toffee and plenty of alcohol burn. Better than I expected with the abv this one has.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with no head. Aroma is toast and cookie malt, alcohol, dates, earthy hops, figs, oak and vanilla. Flavor is sweet malt, spicy alcohol, dark fruits and a sweet finish. Full body and light carbonation.

TheHOFF43 (2043) - Robbinsdale, Minnesota, USA - JUN 17, 2013
Bottle from MikeM409. Pours is a light caramel, mostly clear as I could see light through it. Aroma was lacking but the flavor was sweet and boozy, but not overpowering. Drinkable considering the abv, actually was pretty damn good. I expected nothing and liked it a fair amount.

Bottle shared by the Hoff! Light tan pour no carbonation and not much of a noticeable aroma. Flavor big sweet boozy carmel, slightly spicy and surprisingly balanced considering the high ABV. Really glad I got to try this one!
