COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name says it all! This unique brew comes in officially at 21.92% abv. This was accomplished by the use of 3 different strains of yeast and a lot of TLC. Technically an ale, but this monster has complex flavors and aromas that suggests characteristics of mead and fruit wines. Be sure to sample Colossus at several different temperatures including heated. That’s right!...heat it up to about 105’F for yet another unique experience of flavors and aromas! 2006 is the swing top bottle and 2011 is the 22 oz. bottle.

Bomber someone sent me - forgive me for not remembering who! This is one bizarre brew. I’m at a loss - the nose is apples, some cinnamon and... something? The flavor is cinnamon, apple, malt, and... I have no idea how to describe. Lychee? No... I don’t know. It’s good and stuff. Booze is really well hidden. not sure what to make of this, but I like it. I think.

Bottle:   Deep dull amber, a bit dirty, thin sudsy white head, spotty lacing.   Heavy caramel malt aroma, sweet, some citrus peel, a little dank.   A little like Samichlaus (sp).   Super sweet citrus start, very candied, very warming.   This is a sipping beer.   Thankfully its not overly cloying, which really surprises me.   Big sweet candied citrus peel with some other soft spices.   The bottle mentions Apple, Cinnamon, and Honey.   I can see that.   Body and mouthfeel are surprisingly moderate.   Again, weird its not cloying or thick and syrupy.   Well, maybe slightly syrupy.   Finishes clean, lingering candied citrus bits, and some big warming from the alcohol.   I was thinking at 21% it would be a drain pour, but surprisingly its not.   Better than expected.

UPDATED: MAY 9, 2013 Hazy brown/dark orange pour with thin, tan head. Aroma of raisins and champagne. Taste of raisins, honey, and fruit cider (minus the sour) as well as a nice caramel malt backbone. Mouthfeel is a bit syrupy.

22oz bomber poured into rocks glasses. Pour was a dark amber color with virtually no head. Sweet smelling aroma of apple cider and booze. Mouth follows suit but adds a syrupy texture. Goes down surprisingly smooth and has a somewhat dry finish. Solid sipper.

When I first had this I figured this was a novelty ale. Smells delicious sweet. Taste was a like apple cinnamon syrup with a warming finish, at 22% that is expected. The sure strength of this brings it down, yet I will still have a 6oz serving when its on tap.

Hefiger, sehr süßer Beginn, der dann zuckriger wird. Zu süß. Zuvor wenig alkoholisch, die Süße wird drückend. Kaum trinkbar. /11/8/7/6/7

Sample at the Central OH BA Tasting at From The Vine on 06/02/2012: This aptly-named beer is a dark reddish-amber color with a minimal white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of honey, dark fruit and malt. Tastes somewhere between and Mead and Port Wine if that is possible. The finish is syrupy and fruity. Interesting to say the least, and a nice sipper.

ChrisOs Kook Tasting. Slightly hazy dark amber beer. Light nose of sweet malt. Low carbonation. Semi soft and semi dry palate. Sweet malt and fruits. Subtle spicy cherry and strawberry. Dried fruits and subtle raisin. Mild caramel and then inevitable aniseed alcohol that is also quite sweet. Finishes a little warming but nothing like 22%!!. Sweet, strong and of surprisingly subtle flavours. Very dangerously drinkable!

Bottle shared at RBWG 2012. Pours a cloudy amber with small off white head. The aroma is a fruity malt and oak. Medium mouthfeel with a vanilla oak flavor and sweet finish. Alcohol present but not overpowering. A good American strong ale from DuClaw.
