The name says it all! This unique brew comes in officially at 21.92% abv. This was accomplished by the use of 3 different strains of yeast and a lot of TLC. Technically an ale, but this monster has complex flavors and aromas that suggests characteristics of mead and fruit wines. Be sure to sample Colossus at several different temperatures including heated. That’s right!...heat it up to about 105’F for yet another unique experience of flavors and aromas! 2006 is the swing top bottle and 2011 is the 22 oz. bottle.

Bottle shared by Sparky27 @ Hellbilly’s Holiday Tasting. Really enjoyed this one (more than the rest of the crew, I think). Ruby red pour with a whispy white head that left a bit of lacing. Impressed by the carbonation in this 21% monstrosity. Aroma of brown sugar, cotton candy, maple syrup, and alcohol. Honey, caramel malt, candied sugar, and dark fruit in flavor. Not as syrupy as one would expect. Tasty.

Bomber, 2011 vintage, a present from Mom on a birthday years ago. Thanks! 9900th rating, and the last time I can make such an announcement with a mere four digits! Hazy dark brown, thin tan ring of head. Aroma of booze, raisin, toffee, vanilla, honey, spice, toast, mild oxidation. The taste is toffee, caramel, dark fruits, vanilla, soy, sherry, blackberries, raisin, booze. Medium bodied, low carbonation, strong booze. Still a bit hot, and oxidation is creeping in, but without any comparison this seems like a good time to have opened it. Onto 10000!!!

22oz bottle. 2011 vintage. Poured a mahogany color with a small sized head. Dark fruits, sugary, caramel, and honey. Sweet with an alcohol burn - sure the alcohol is there, but at 22%, why wouldn’t it be ...

Bottle @ Presidential Suite. Thanks, Peter. Flat mahogany pour with no head. Smells of booze, cherry cough syrup, and caramel. Lots of grape juice and kind of a mulled cider character. Flavor is significantly better and lacks a lot of the cough syrup that was on the nose. Sort of a grape juice and caramel sweetness. A bit of grape juice and sweet cider. Maybe some honey and a lot of black cherry. The destitute man’s Millennium, I guess.

Bottle sent by BMart and shared at the RBSG post-grand tasting bottle share. Pours a clear red-amber with almost no head. Really rich on the aroma and flavor. Caramel, cherry, brown sugar, mild spice, cake, sherry, marmalade, vanilla, and honey. Medium-full bodied, with low carbonation and a warm, coating, boozy mouthfeel. Big and strong, just as expected. Not as unique or flavorful as I’d hoped, but pretty interesting and fun to try.

Offering shared at RateBeer Grand Tasting 2014 (St. Louis, MO). Pours a deep orange amber hue, fairly transparent with frothy loose bubbly head atop. Mellow ring loose bubbles, gentle glow. Aromas are deep and sweet, some vinous and wine qualities, deadened caramel sweetness. A bit of toast, some rich caramel and marmalade. Initial is a bit spirit driven, warm and gentle sweetness. A bit vinous with orange marmalade, touch of caramel. Middle is thinner, warm, a bit sweeter on the backend. A bit spirit driven, warm with some significant sweetness at times. Gentle cherry, lots of orange and caramel. Finish is a bit vinous, some warmth with vanillin and awkward. Not bad, just not my thing. Warm, a bit strong overall.

Not swingtop bottle. I heated this beer t0 90 degrees by continuously flatulating on it for a few minutes. It was defitintely boozy at that point. Woudl like them to lower the abv by 10.888%

Petershare. Nose is a sweet piney hoppy alcohol thing. Taste is sugary sweet and a quick burn in the chest. Mellows out and real chill

Tasted at RBSG grand tasting post-tasting. Clear dark red color. Thin ring of off-white head. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp lighter carbonation. Light slick texture. Dark fruit, sherry flavor. Moderate sweet taste, light bit of heat, not bad for the ABV. Solid huge beer. Best thing about is the big ABV though, other than that, not much.

Interesting, lots of malty-sweetness to this. Honey is first on the palate. I feel like this is mead like in design. Very sweet and heavy on the palate. No alcohol though.

Nocturne (970) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - OCT 31, 2013
650ml bottle. Pours out a mostly clear semi-dark amber. An initial head fades to nothing. Big aroma of raisin, toffee, almost Belgian, almost spirit-like. Massive malty taste with the elements of the aroma. Ultra sticky, massive lingering medicinal twang. Even though it’s obviously huge, there’s little alcohol burn and dare I say it’s actually quite well hidden (for the strength, anyway). Masterfully done in that sense. Drank the whole thing myself which I probably wouldn’t recommend!
