COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Available only at special events put on by the brewery, Deception is our version of a Belgian Quad. Brewed with generous amounts of select malts, candi sugar, honey, choice spices and fermented with 2 diffwerent yeast strains, this huge beer actually belongs to a style that is all its own. Hand bottled and sealed with wax, our 1 liter bottles should age gracefully for years to come....if you can wait that long!

Peppery and perfumy, this monster is a bit over the top on the sweet side. Burning alcohol at this level cannot be masked, so drink with caution. These guys are making some interesting brews out East!!! This one is just a little to candy sweet for me. Saccharine like aftertaste once the burn wears off!

Hazy amber. Floral aroma, with some band-aid phenols and a hint of citrusy hop. Sweet body, with a powerful alcohol kick (at 16.4% this is more of a Quintuple!). Slight toastiness, and a hint of plastic round things out. I was never a huge Quad fan - too sweet and alcoholic - so I had trouble getting into such an over-the-top example. Thanks scraff, though, for securing this beast.

A limited release in July 2004, that still needs time to develop. Right now, it’s a one trick pony: sweet. From the nose to the palate and on through to the finish, the sweetness just totally dominated. Small head accompanied the hazy, orange appearance. I spilled some on my fingers and sugar crystals welded them to the glass. Will they give us another chance in a couple of years?

Same bottle as argo0 and egajdzis. Hazy golden amber color. Small off-white head. Very sweet and spicy aroma. Alcohol is quite noticeable. Flavor is sweet and flowery. Too many unfermented sugars, but it has potential. Needs more aging, IMO. Body is syrupy and coats the palate.

This brew poured a small head of fine bubbles that left little lacing and a cloudy light orange brown body. It had a mild alcohol aroma and a strong alcohol flavor.

Sampled from the same bottle as argo... Poured a hazy golden color with a white head and nice lacing. Sweet aroma of candy and alcohol. And overall the taste included sugar, with some alcohol burn on the tongue.

Really attractive estery aroma, with plenty of hops. Flavor is rather dissappointing, though. Big flavor with hops to balance, but hugely sweet in the finish, and very confused tasting, with an alcoholic burn. One dimensional. This may settle down with age, but not for a while.

Looked like hazy caramel in the glass, thick and full as it swirled. Sweet honey, caramel, light chocolate, alcohol and sweet fruit. The flavor was, in my opinion, far too sweet. Again, honey, sugar, caramel, alcohol and some light spices. An interesting idea that didn't quite grab me.

A pretty pale gold with a small slightly off white head. Overwelmingly sweet. You can taste the alcohol, but it is burried under the syrup that covers up all the other flavors. Not bad, but I had to stop at one. And not because of the alcohol content.

(8 mos. old) Small white head atop clear hazy body. Aroma is very sweet (candy sugar, honey), peach, flowery. Taste is painfully honey sweet, with fairly strong alcohol. Full body.
