Devil’s Milk is an American-style Barley Wine. This beer exhibits a wealth of fruit flavors, from pears to plums to raisins. Devil’s Milk is dry hopped (hops added after fermentation) for a strong bite that balances its big malt backbone. Served in a snifter glass because of the high abv, barley wines are perfect as a relaxing “after-dinner” drink or nitecap.

2005 version at the Arundel Mills brewpub. Cloudy amber with a foamy off white head. Sweet fruity aroma with some spruce and citrus. Wow! One sip and you know you are on to something special. Expecting to be overwhelmed by the alcohol but was somewhat surpised by sweet caramel, candy like flavor. Not a big barleywine fan but damn, this is good. Excellent beer.

Growler from Trenton Road Takeout in Fairless Hills, PA. Dark Amber color topped by a small firm beige head. Notes of burnt sugar and plums in nose. Flavor is more of the same with a nice warming alcohol burn. Soft palate has a touch of dried apricot and then lot’s of bitter hops. This is a sipping beer, make no mistake, but it easy to drink and therefor very deceptive. The name is well chosen. Finish is dry and bitter. Sticky mouthfeel from the resiny hops.

Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours a orange with an amber hue and a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of raisins and some light sweet fruit with a bit of sweet grains and caramel backing. Flavor has caramel and grains with a bit of raisins and a touch of bitterness through the finish.

Bottle trade from SJ. Beautiful notes of caramel, toffee, spice, booze, bread, coffee and hop. Dry finish. Really good blend of ingredients.

Purchased in a sixtel from spirit in Manahawkin. It pours with a nice creamy head. Nice amber color with a nice toffee smell. Taste sweet and fruity plums and caramel with brown sugar. Does not taste like it is high in alcohol content. I have had in bottle format and in keg. I prefer the keg format much more.

Pours a dark amber orange with a defined foam head. The aroma is of earthy evergreen and floral hops. I noticed scents of carmel, dates, a touch of mocha like notes, and a pleasant sweet malted grain scent. Tasting, I picked up on a medium sweetner like flavor. I noticed a crisp yet lightly toasted blend of chocolate and carmel malts. There was also a backdrop of raisins and pears that peaked through in the flavor. Overall this was a nicely done beverage. It had a great finish with a fine lingering bitterness that helped mask the booze bite. In the end it effected my palate but not harshly. I’d recommend giving this brew a try, glad I picked up a 6pk.

Poured from the tap in Chester, VA. Aroma- Has a nice malt, hops, barley and some fruit essence tossed in. Appearance- A reddish copper color with a small tan head. Taste- Has a sweet opening that brings along the barley and hops for the finish. Not bad Palate- A heavy bodied brew with light carbonation. Has a great texture that is thick to creamy. Overall- I enjoyed this beer, I would buy it the next time I see it on tap.

Tasted on 2/22/12 from a bottle. Pours clear blood orange with an average off-white head that leaves thin lace. The nose is malty caramel, brown sugar, some burnt bitterness, and a hint of chocolate. The flavor is dry and malty with caramel, brown sugar, and some toasted burnt chocolate bitterness. The body is full with lighter carbonation and a long lightly bitter malty finish.
