Bottle courtesy of slob. Pours amber and slightly carbonated. Smells of lots of plums, oranges, dark fruit, sweet malt. Tastes moderately peppery with a pronounced fruity presence and lots of caramel to back it up. Finish balances out the sweetness nicely with a touch of warming alcohol. Very nice!

Bottle from State Line. Pours hazy deep copper w 2f frothy ow head. Nose is caramel malt, brown sugar, fruit, hops, spirits, oak. Tastes caramel malty, spirity, with oaky cognac, dark fruit, and hefty hops.

Orange/reddish pour. Whitish head. Honey, citrus hops, apples and a light boozy note. Flavor is sweet and hoppy...citrus hops, light honey, apples. Nice stuff!

Thanks to Todd for the ’07 hand-bottled bomber! Poured fiery reddish-orange with a short cap of toffee head. The aroma was sweet and intense with darker fruits and caramel on the malt front with spicy, floral, and perfumey hoppage surrounding.. alcohol amplification and really nice balance. The flavor carried through that sweetness, with caramel, honey, and a little grapefruit meat at the core.. spicy and floral bitterness surrounded.. alcohol warmth was apparent, but it never got in the way.. long, strong impression on the finish. Heavier-bodied, warm, and grainy on the palate with enough carbonation to keep it moving.. sticky, hot finish that warmed the belly.. alcohol was held in check as well as you could hope for considering the ABV. I’d gladly drink this again!

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2008 1L swing top. Pour and amber body, lots of sweet malt, sugar, some toffee, etoh, citrus hoppy pine as well but mellow in comparison to the dark fruit and raisin.

RBSG 06 DC @ RFD’s Special Tasting
Ruby amber color, creamy tan head, lots of lacing. Nose of sweet piney hops and maltose. The flavor has a touch of metallic, but it’s quickly overwhelmbed by the sweet syruppy caramel; rich body and exquisite hop compounds. The finish has a nice balanced bitter slap. Nice barleywine.

Bottle at first DC tasting of 2010.
Copper colored with a small white head and slight lacing. Aroma has caramel malts and rose water. Flavor has lots of sweet malts, dark fruit, scotch, well-balanced with hops. Good body. Smooth. Very nice.

22 ounce bottle courtesy of a free beer contest run by GMCC2181. Thanks! Not sure how old this was when I got it, but I’ve had it 13 months, so its got some age. Also, thought this would be fitting for my 3666th rating. Pours a clear dark strawberry red with a medium tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of toffee, brown sugar, citrus hops. The taste is toffee, brown sugar, berries, citrus, peppery hop notes. Medium-full bodied. The hops have probably faded some, but I like that better anyway. Nice malty barleywine. This has aged well.

RLB YEHA 05. Growler thanks to Eric. Pours cloudy light amber/orange with a nice head. Aroma is very strong with hops even for a barleywine. Lots of caramel malts to back it up and just a hint of alcohol. I noted that the aroma was so hoppy that it reminded me more of a great DIPA. Flavor is very sticky with lots of lupulin and resin. Tons of hops citrus and pine. Moderately sweet backbone. Great lingering finish on the tongue.
