COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Devil’s Milk is an American-style Barley Wine. This beer exhibits a wealth of fruit flavors, from pears to plums to raisins. Devil’s Milk is dry hopped (hops added after fermentation) for a strong bite that balances its big malt backbone. Served in a snifter glass because of the high abv, barley wines are perfect as a relaxing “after-dinner” drink or nitecap.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2009 On tap at the Baltimore location. Flickr(http://www.flickr.com/photos/26049401@N0 Very floral cognac and apple nose, touching on sweet pineapple, pear nectar and a bit of guava. Nicely fruity. Pours an amber-orange, with a golden fringe and a thin rim in white. Wet, rotten grain flavor. Loads of isovaleric wet dog and some salty metal. Rather shallow finish. The grain and hop characters aren’t good, even if the yeast and alcohol profiles shine a little. Finishes a touch oaky and with some hop gum. Alcohol levels seem appropriate. Mediocre.

From DC Local tasting. Pours a clear bright amber like cognac. Thin white head. Aroma is spicy, caramel, very hoppy, resiny, piney. Taste is hoppy, dry, fairly bitter, some balancing caramel and honey. Very dry. Hoppy bitterness. Not bad.

22oz. Bottle (at 10.6%ABV per the bottle): Aroma of malt, toasted caramel, slight toffee, and a hint of hops. Poured amber in color with a small, creamy, dense, beige head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Very good lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malt, caramel, slight hops, hint of chocolate, slight resin, sugar, and slight toffee. Full body. Dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, hops and caramel finish is lightly dry and slightly sticky. 10.6%ABV is completely hidden throughout. More malty than hoppy, and there is no "intense hop finish."

Bottle shared in Texas by ericandersnavy. Definitely an American style because of the more pronounced hop notes but also some brown sugar, strong malts and rum to balance things out.
