COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Devilís Milk is an American-style Barley Wine. This beer exhibits a wealth of fruit flavors, from pears to plums to raisins. Devilís Milk is dry hopped (hops added after fermentation) for a strong bite that balances its big malt backbone. Served in a snifter glass because of the high abv, barley wines are perfect as a relaxing ďafter-dinnerĒ drink or nitecap.

TAR (2475) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - SEP 14, 2004
1L - 2003 vintage: Cloudy garnet. Thick, tiny-bubbled caramel foam halo. Scents of well-aged bready malt and earthy hops with touches of plums, pine, unsweetened chocolate, and orange peels. Fairly prickly on the tongue. Thick body. Less acidic than the aroma would indicate, with a meaty malt foundation giving way to staunchly bitter pine needles and seared sugar briskness. Profound hop bitterness exaggerates the sprucey alcohol. Burnt caramel, leather, and alcohol-soaked bread late. Unrefined maltiness. Simplistic finish, with long hoppy assertions and subtle notes of sherry, overripe plum skins, and earthy malts. This was extremely raw and brash when fresh, and, interestingly, itís failed to come together after only a year in the bottle. The aroma is already showing some serious oxidation and acidity, and the malt flavors are quickly becoming dull and muddled. Nothing at all exciting about this, even when young. Thanks for the try, scraff.

Clear, light amber; big-form bubbles. Vanilla aroma, hops, more balance than in some comparison barleywines. Oily smooth going into my mouth but a bit astringent once it gets there and...thereís something ugly in the finish (I canít identify what).

Coles Barleywine Competition 2012. Copper colored pour. Decent flavor of rich malts, light dark fruits. Carbonation seems somewhat off. Tobacco notes, somewhat harsh finish

On tap at the brewpub. Clear amber brew with very little head. Smells decent - grassy hops, toffee, caramel but flavor is lacking. Lots of alcoholic heat.

Bottle->snifter. Orange-amber with small offwhite head. Strong aroma of pine, honey, spice, tart fruit. Taste is a let-down; sweet malt with some spice and citrus, but funky in a negative way. Definite alcohol presence.
