COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Devilís Milk is an American-style Barley Wine. This beer exhibits a wealth of fruit flavors, from pears to plums to raisins. Devilís Milk is dry hopped (hops added after fermentation) for a strong bite that balances its big malt backbone. Served in a snifter glass because of the high abv, barley wines are perfect as a relaxing ďafter-dinnerĒ drink or nitecap.

Amber colored without much head, aroma of fruity, grain and hops. Balanced taste of hops, citrus and bread. Slightly bitter palate of citrus rind.

Bottle@home, from Wine Spot, Cleveland, USA. Medium/strong distinctive slightly artificial aroma with raisin, caramel and alcohol. Dark copper color with small light beige head and semi-hazy liquid. Strong complex taste with sweet raisin, plum, cherry and alcohol. Averagely balanced with wide/medium taste spectrum and long sweet hoppy aftertaste of sweet raisin and a hint of sweet malts. Medium/strong body with medium/light carbonation. Overall, distinctive taste but in a bit artificial and messy fashion.

$2.45 Bottle from Wine Warehouse. Iíve gone against my better judgement and purchased a couple of DuClaw bottles that I hadnít tasted before. Full disclosure: I am not a fan of this brewery overall and I typically steer clear of their beers lately. That being said, letís go ahead and sample this. Pours clear deep amber with a gigantic beige head. Iíd say I only poured a quarter of the bottle and I canít get any more in. Aroma is quite pleasant: plums, nuts, pine, citrus. Iím starting to think this might end up being my highest rates DuClaw brew based on the aroma. Letís see how it tastes.... Very nutty... lots of cashews, walnuts, hell even coconut. Then add some raisin, pine, vanilla, and alcohol. By far, my favorite from this brewery. Note: my bottle says 11.5% abv rather than 10.5%.

1L - 2003 vintage: Cloudy garnet. Thick, tiny-bubbled caramel foam halo. Scents of well-aged bready malt and earthy hops with touches of plums, pine, unsweetened chocolate, and orange peels. Fairly prickly on the tongue. Thick body. Less acidic than the aroma would indicate, with a meaty malt foundation giving way to staunchly bitter pine needles and seared sugar briskness. Profound hop bitterness exaggerates the sprucey alcohol. Burnt caramel, leather, and alcohol-soaked bread late. Unrefined maltiness. Simplistic finish, with long hoppy assertions and subtle notes of sherry, overripe plum skins, and earthy malts. This was extremely raw and brash when fresh, and, interestingly, itís failed to come together after only a year in the bottle. The aroma is already showing some serious oxidation and acidity, and the malt flavors are quickly becoming dull and muddled. Nothing at all exciting about this, even when young. Thanks for the try, scraff.

PDG ... pretty darn good. Came off as an IPA to me. Think maybe DFH 90 Minute w/ more of a subtle herbal taste spice flavor & some citrus & fruity notes. Mixes in a well a soft sweet malty rather smooth medium built body. Hides the alcohol content well. I still think IPA moreso than seasonal / barley wine. Good offering.

Tap @ Bowie. Orangish amber color with a trace amount of head. Aroma is relatively hoppy, with some nice citrus and general sweetness. Taste is much the same - quite sweet, hoppy. Perhaps a bit too sweet, but interesting. Alcohol is present, but not overpowering.

Sharp alcoholic bite to this one. Red body with little to no head. Some medium bitterness with the hops but this seems a little unbalanced.

07 vintage, handbottle, courtsey of my main man Yaniv! A prelude to Barleywine Armageddon í08 (tomorrow!). Amber clear reddish with a grey head. Overripe amarillo hops giving off that garlicy sort of note. a bit sweet, with some alcohol and slightly toasty astringency. Thin, and lightly carbonated, ala handbottle. Pineapply garlic past prime hops. Alcohol. Light malt. Drier than the nose suggests, thought definite caramel. A bit of fruit, straw. Lingering hay to grassy hops. I would have guessed American strong ale, as this is a bit too hot and low on the sweetness to be a barleywine, IMHO.

Bottle shared by Daknole. Pours cloudy amber with a half finger off-white head. The nose is caramel and fruity hops. The taste is dried fruits, toffee and citrus with a touch of pine in the finish. Pretty sweet but not bad. Thanks Dak!
