3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Growler sample via egadjzis at rich’s YeHa 05. I guess I went across the grain with this beer, as I did not particularly think it was that special. This sample has a hoppy, hempy, sweet sugary aroma. This smells much more like an IPA/IIPA than a barleywine. I do not get much of the vinous aromas that I like to smell in a barleywine. Mildly hazy copper color with a yellowish head. Very sweet, sticky sticky start, turning more malty in the middle. Mild vinousness and some hempy hops to finish. This beer hides the ethanol well, but it is very sweet and kind of cloying. I was disappointed with this offering. Perhaps in time, this would improve.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sampled at RBSG from Scraff. I had waited a LONG time to taste this but I wasn’t all that impressed. I like a BW to be a bit more complex than this. It was just too sweet and starnge for me.

Tap from Du Claw in Bel Air. Pours a dark amber orange with a minimal tan head. Aromas were of cognac, fig, and caramel. Medium to Full-bodied.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Quite a bit of hops in the taste, along with bourbon-like/oak taste taking over. Reminded slightly of Arrogant Bastard. A little overrated IMO.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours cloudy brown with little to no head at all. Aroma is caramel malts, brown sugar, dry fruits and vanilla. Flavor is not quite what I was expecting from the aroma. light caramel malts, wood and brown sugar. Light bodied with little to no carbonation.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Very sweet overall, even in the aroma. Some toasted flavors and a bit of bitterness are hidden in the flavor. Overall, however, it’s pretty damn sweet and is kind of a mess, though it still is tasty.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
No way, no bleeping way that this is a 98%ile beer. AIPA aroma. Deep clear bronze. Filmy head. Too sweet. Way too sweet. Bittering was off kilter. Orange baby aspirin flavors. Amateurish.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Growler at Mike’s place: Deep copper color with a tan film of head. Grainy and buttery aroma. The hops are faded and dank with evident diacetyl formation. Slick and very buttery body as well. Lots of diacetyl presence fades the hops that are there. Butterscotch and subdued grains. Eh.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Poured a muddy brown color. The initial buzz of a head quickly quit, but what was left was a virtual latticework along the outside of the glass. The initial aroma is light but vaguely sugary; this drinks with a biting edge, but a definitive doughiness. (#4202, 8/14/2011)
