Bottle at the RBESG 2011 Grand Tasting, London. Pours clear ruby with a filmy, white head. Old hops in the aroma, with notes of caramel and straight sugar. Very sweet flavor rife with toffee, fruits, malt, caramel. Awesomeish. Full bodied with average carbonation. Mildly warming finish with moderate bitterness, sweet brown sugar and caramel. Very, very good beer.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 NomDeBeer (414) - Maryland, USA - NOV 30, 2008
Aroma of sweet spruce and citrus hops. Pours a medium brown color with a small white head. Taste is dominated by citrus hops, pine, caramel sweetness, and the perfect amount of alcohol warmth. Mouthfeel is smooth and full-bodied with low carbonation. This is an outstanding barley wine - one of my favorites. Very enjoyable.

RBSG 07 grand tasting. A clean amber pour with a sticky lacing and almost no head. A nose that reeks of citrusy hops. A semi sweet/hoppy smooth textured drinker that is about as well balanced as it could be. Good carbonation and a full bodied palate. This is the way a beer should be.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Mangino (1027) - Mississippi, USA - MAR 26, 2006
Huge thanks to StewardOfGondor for sharing this. Pours a clear dark golden color. Very small off white head. Aroma of sharp hops and booze. Sweet pine. Flavor is sweet, smooth, alcohol spiciness, very easy drinking. Tasty!

Poured a cloudy amber with a white head. Aroma is a strong mix of caramel and piney hops. Taste is remarkably balanced between strong bitter pine hops and caramel sweetness. Lots of dry alcohol. Seems a bit overhopped for a bw and a bit too malty for a IIPA... just a well made kick-in-the-ass American Strong Ale if you ask me.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Styles (2014) - Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA - JAN 10, 2006
Growler from the combined efforts of BuckNaked (purchase) and Pailhead (transport). Thanks to the both of you!!! Fiery transparent amber with only a ring of bubbles, also very oily in appearance. Aroma full of fruit, citrus hops, peach, apricot, with some faint stale malt. Very oily/syrup-like mouthfeel. Flavor just like aroma would indicate. All kinds of fruit, orange zest, peach/apricot, caramel coated apples. Slight alcohol flavor in the finsh, but nowhere near what you would think for 12%. Maybe a bit young, as it could use a bigger malt presence. Regardless, a fine barleywine, I’m glad to have tried.

1L bottle. thanks to kmweaver for this. awesome label and name! pours dense dark orange with the thinest of off white heads, the bottle made no popping sound. nose of sweet plums, cotton candy. flavors are sweet, cotton candy, brown sugar, sweet plums, slight tar and tobacco in the finish. the finish is brillant and makes this beer something special. it actually balances the sweet notes and makes this something to be respected. alc is very well hidden, i’m amazed it’s 12.2%. the carbonation is extremely low but it works real well. hardly any hop notes. i’d love to age this 1-4 years, but it’s awesome now. delicate, complex, and balanced.
