4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 jeffc666 (1984) - Fairfax, USA - JUL 23, 2003
UPDATED: DEC 3, 2004 This is good stuff. Nice deep dark red-amber color. Very aromatic. Floral hops and malt. Smallish head. The tastes are amazing, good malty character with a not overwhelming hop flavor. It zings your tongue with its alcohol and you fell the after-effects in the aftertaste. Excellent example of this style. Yum-yum.
Update: I was able to try two vintages side-by-side: 2000 and 2001. The 2000 has aged nicely. The hop bitterness has really subsided. The 2001 still had a good dosage of hop flavor and was better overall then the 2000 vintage.

Pours with little head, nice light copper color.very drinkable barleywine. Low bitterness on the front head with pleasant aroma on the finish. Tastes very pleasant green reminds me of the ganj, or so I’ve been told ;) I could drink several of these in one sitting. As a barleywine, this one is a bit lacking in body and malt for some BA’s but I will definitely pick up more of this next time I visit friends in DC.

2012.02.22 - On tap at Always Ron’s. Light to medium copper color. Very sticky head which stays wherever it has touched. Taste is pretty good, seems like a quite hoppy flavor yet smooth and controlled, not overbearing.

Bottle shared by John at STL RB gathering. Pour is light brown with almost no head. Aroma is a strange combo of maple syrup and raw pumpkin with hints of brown sugar and light spice. Flavor is very buttery with hints of sweet malt and light bitterness followed by a sugar smooth finish. Not bad, but not quite as bold as expected.
