COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Stout brewed with spices and aged in bourbon barrels. What happen when a 40/60 blend of RETRIBUTION Imperial Stout and REPENT Belgian Pent Ale ages for 6 months inside a charred Kentucky white oak bourbon barrel? The second coming of divinity. This full bodied blended stout balances the penitent aromas of sweet with vengeful notes of dark fruit, vanilla, charred oak, and espresso for a beer so revelatory you’ll . . . Ask forgiveness instead of permission.

Bottle from Capones, 2012 bottling. Black with mocha head that fades to a ring. Bourbon, vanilla, oak, smoke, ash, semi-burnt malt, chocolate, light anise. Moderate carbonation and full body, bitter with a bourbon sweetness, nice oak character, slight bite, very good beer.

Served on tap in a chalice glass Appearance – The beer is served a pitch black color with a one finger of tan colored head. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is massive of a s vanilla smell with a big presence of a dark roasted malt smell as a well as a bit lot roasted bourbon booziness and some notes of cocoa. Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter roasted malt and chocolate taste with plenty of bourbon booziness and a good deal of vanilla and darker fruits. The bourbon booziness grow slightly stronger as the taste advances with some other more roasted malt flavor increasing in intensity as well. The sweetness remains rather high with a good showing of chocolate, sweet vanilla, and caramel throughout, but is all the while balanced by the rather robust boozy and dark flavors of the brew, leaving one with a quite thick and satisfyingly robust dark imperial flavor to linger on the tongue, slightly boozy, Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is super thick with a lower carbonation. These characteristics are fantastic for the big rich and slightly boozy flavors of the brew creating a nice feel to accentuate the big and powerful flavors. Overall – This is a quite enjoyable and rather robust imperial stout with tons of flavor and a really nice mouth coating feel.

Bottle... Mostly clear, dark brown pour with a small, creamy, white head. Decent retention. The nose is a mingling of pouch tobacco, vanilla, alcohol and a pinch of toasted coconut. Full-bodied and velvety with restrained carbonation. The flavor is a fusion of sweet molasses, bourbon and vanilla. Finishes sweet and boozy. Very enjoyable, but with a retail price of $27.99, it’s too spendy for me to ever drink again.

McNeillR (1328) - SCOTLAND - MAR 18, 2014
Darkest brown with rub of ruby in the light and stencil of tan head head. Buzzing sheen MDF woodiness but with a decent estuary smoky nose. Buckets of choc, in a spread throughout from the initial taste of light cocoa to dark chewy nibs. Finish is masked dark liquorice, hating alcohol burn. Cuffed sweetness by this, but the finish is earnest vanilla and rich dryness.

Bottle, mule’d by CAGarvie for the "Let’s Do A Chris O" Chris-O-age, vile style I had to decrypt this one - but worth it

Bottle courtesy of Craig at Craigs doing a Chris O tasting, Edinburgh (ta for the beer Craig) Saturday 15th March Pours black with a red glint. A little chilli heat coming from somewhere, everyone kept going on about sexual chocolate, can’t recall whether they were discussing this or another but this was marvellous. Lots of chocolate some vanilla, good but I think that chilli is a bit of harshness from the alcohol. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov16 3.8
