3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at DuClaw Bel Air.
Appearance: Clear mahogany body with a creamy light tan head.
Aroma: Nutty with toffee, cocoa, and caramel. Leans a bit sweet.
Taste: Dry nutty intro into a moderately sweet caramel, toffee, and cocoa mid-taste with a dry roasted peanut finish.
Palate: Medium bodied, moderately carbonated.
Overall: Really good brown ale, complex and drinkable. I’d like this in bottles.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Poured a clear chestnut brown body with a very minimal fizzy off-white head that completely vanished quickly. The nose is very sweet with loads of caramel, toffee, Frangelico liquor, and a slight bit of chocolate. The flavor is equally sweet with a lot of hazelnuts, burnt caramel, almond extract, maybe a light coffee note on the finish. Light to medium bodied with a bit of clingy sticky sweetness on the back end. Fine fizzy carbonation. Not too bad, but it’s a little too artificial tasting and overly sweet.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: clear amber, with one finger of tight, creamy, light tan head quickly shrinking to a thin collar; lacing is spotty and fleeting. Aroma: strong nose, with lots going on--caramel, definite toffee, roasted almonds, brown sugar, rustic brown bread. Taste: sweet, with nutty toffee notes, with some caramel, brown sugar, molasses, and chicory; under that is a bit of vanilla and treacle. Finish: smooth and creamy, with a lingering nutty sweetness. Notes: This is a one note beer, but that note is tasty. It’s all about the toffee and nut flavors, so there is some serious truth in advertising here. While definitely on the sweet side, the lower-end abv and light-yet-creamy palate kept this from being a dessert-sipper-only brown ale.
