12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a dark brown color. There’s about a fingers worth of light mocha-shaded head, also. It isn’t the most impressive retaining head, but has a nice texture and nice lacing, as well. S: The first whiffs bring a pleasant chocolate-coated peanut character. After it opens up, some nondescript esters and a touch of acidic twang enter. While nothing about the aroma is wowing, it certainly smells pleasing enough. T: The flavor, actually, is quite forward in sweet caramel and toffee, as opposed to the nutty chocolate suggested on the nose. I don’t even get much nuttiness in fact (maybe a twinge on the swallow). The finish is a touch roasty/acidic, though not overwhelming. All in all, it’s decent, well balanced - and unexciting. M: Medium in body, the slight roasted touch on the back end cleans the palate acceptably. The finish errs on the sweet side, though. It’s drinkable due in large part to its vibrant carbonation. O: Everything about this brew is ’nice’. Nothing more, nothing less. Like most brown ales, it feels safe. Normally safe isn’t good, but considering some of the duds I’ve had from this brewery in the past (oh hai, Serum!), I guess - for once - I’ll say ’better safe than sorry’. This one’s on the pile of beers I’d gladly drink again, as long as I don’t have to buy a 6-pack of it.

Bottle from Perfect Pour. Dark brown body with medium head. Nose is malty, caramel of plums. Taste is similar of malts, caramel, coffee, dark fruits. Texture is really clean. Nice and syrupy with a dark chocolate kick in the finale.

12 oz undated bottle served in a snifter. Pours dark brown; clear with ruby highlights. Thin head soon reduces to a partial top coat and ring. Aroma: roasted nuts and toffee with dark bread. Flavor: lots of toffee but about equally bitter and sweet. Feel: Medium body and medium-light carbonation.

Poured from bottle into shaker. Pours a medium brown wth undertones of red and a very light khaki head that is very resilient. Aroma of toffee and almonds. Taste is similar with nice toffee and caramel notes. Smooth mouthfeel and clean finish.

Bottle, thanks sevenhokie! Extremely sweet toffee aroma with caramel and nutty notes. Pours opaque brown with a thin light brown head with OK retention and good lacing. Starts with caramel malt sweetness with a little bit of nuttiness as well. Finishes smooth with a huge toffee malt sticky sweetness that clings to the palate. Pretty nice brown but almost too sweet.

[7790-20151005] Bottle. Malty chocolate mud aroma. Hazy, dark amber brown body with a quick foamy off-white head. Sweet malty burlap and wet grains and toasted crusts flavour. Medium body. Seems a little burnt. (7/3/5/3/11) 2.9
