The aroma was chocolate and nuts wtih a toasty aspect and characterisitics of cognac and brandy. The flavor was chocolate and nuts (hazelnuts?) with a bit of a light oak presnce. The finish was bone dry and nice with lasting chocolate and nut into the aftertaste. Throughout the aroma and flavor were coffee impressions which lasted into the aftertaste. The body was medium and the carbonation was moderate. An interesting beer, but not something I really want to have another pint of.

had this last year. pretty different in terms of dark beers. it’s definitely a brown ale, but the flavor and aroma were almost like a Werther’s Original drop. Tons of caramel, toffee and nuttiness but very sweet. kinda like a gourmet beer.

On tap at the Belair location. Color was more bronze than brown, but still pleasing. Nice thick head and lasted. Extremely sweet nose, nice mouthfeel. The caramel/toffe-sweet flavor was a bit much for me. I liked it, but did not have a second one.

Nice toffee, almost too sweet, but still pretty good given the lackluster beer usually on tap (Venom is usually the exception). Pretty good mouthfeel, not too watery. Nice malt and caramel balance both on the nose and tongue. The nut character isn’t too, too prevalent, but it’s in there, well balanced. As for the style, it;s about 75-80% of the way to a very good beer. (On Tap 9/16/2007)

Draft at Fell’s Point. The aroma of toffee, caramel, and chocolate is strong. The taste is magnificent. It is well-balanced so the toffee/chocolate flavors remain the focus. It has a mild but lingering aftertaste. It is sweet, but not overdone. I love this beer. My girlfriend says "it tastes like a pretzel." I have no idea what she is talking about.

Picked me up a growler of this yesterday and figured I would give a rating. The aroma is really nice. Smells like toffee and maple. Appearance is a nice dark brown with a tinge of red. The taste is a good mix of the aroma with a bit of malt and kind of sweet. Feels nice and smooth on your tongue and goes down very easy. Overall I enjoyed it very much.

The pour is a clear reddish brown with a thin creme head. The scent is mild but fresh, with definite notes of toffee. The taste is caramel with a semi-dry toffee after-note. Subtle lacing on the glass. A mild but very drinkable ale. My favorite DuClaw offering. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not horrible but I’m not a big fan of super sweet beers. Tastes just like it says, lots of toffee. It could also stand to be a little "thicker" and more robust.
