Too much toffee character. If youíre a fan of flavored coffees then this might appeal to you.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On draft at DuClaw in Bowie, MD.
The beer is chestnut brown and hazy with a wisp of tan head. The aroma offers toffee, malt, bread, brown sugar. A touch of sweet toffee among brown bread and caramel malt notes. Moderately low carbonation with a touch of bitterness in the back. A decent brew, but not something I feel compelled to have again.

3.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Super nutty aroma with some peanut butter notes. No hops on the nose. Appearance is a cloudy brown beer with an off white head with poor head retention. Flavor is malt forward with nut, caramel and peanut butter notes. No hop flavor in the taste. Esters are low. Mouthfeel is moderate with moderate low carbonation. Overall, the beer from this bottle seems a little flat, but the beer has potential. I'll assume the carbonation issue with this beer isn't typical and is an anomaly.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Amber in color. Scent of chocolate/toffee....not a strong one. Taste is of choc/toffee. Palate shows off the toffee after a few seconds. Leaves a cappuccino kind of palate after awhile. Pretty darn good. I would get it again.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a dark brown color. Thereís about a fingers worth of light mocha-shaded head, also. It isnít the most impressive retaining head, but has a nice texture and nice lacing, as well.
S: The first whiffs bring a pleasant chocolate-coated peanut character. After it opens up, some nondescript esters and a touch of acidic twang enter. While nothing about the aroma is wowing, it certainly smells pleasing enough.
T: The flavor, actually, is quite forward in sweet caramel and toffee, as opposed to the nutty chocolate suggested on the nose. I donít even get much nuttiness in fact (maybe a twinge on the swallow). The finish is a touch roasty/acidic, though not overwhelming. All in all, itís decent, well balanced - and unexciting.
M: Medium in body, the slight roasted touch on the back end cleans the palate acceptably. The finish errs on the sweet side, though. Itís drinkable due in large part to its vibrant carbonation.
O: Everything about this brew is íniceí. Nothing more, nothing less. Like most brown ales, it feels safe. Normally safe isnít good, but considering some of the duds Iíve had from this brewery in the past (oh hai, Serum!), I guess - for once - Iíll say íbetter safe than sorryí. This oneís on the pile of beers Iíd gladly drink again, as long as I donít have to buy a 6-pack of it.

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Fresh bottle. Pours Orange gold with minimal head. Aroma is caramel, nutty. Taste is earthy and nutty, some caramel and brown sugar tones. One of the better "nut ales" I've had. Solid.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Malty aroma with a hint of chocolate. Caramel sweetness in the malty base with a bit of cocoa and earthiness. Long, smooth finish. Nice for the style.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
From the bottle. Aroma is toffee, like a Werthers, and a bit of almond. Pours bright brown with a small yellow lace. Taste is sweet toffee and then stale cardboard brown ale. The brew gets sweeter with a fake toffee syrup taste as it warms. Itís palatable but I wouldnít have more than one.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Caramel, molasses, and a little metallic tinniness in the aroma. Flavor is on the sweet side, with caramel, raisins, and dark fruit. Some roast coffee bitterness in the finish. Fine cold-weather beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled 12/04/13. Nose faint milk chocolate and light dark malt, thereís some almond milk and mildly acrid amber ale, lights hops. Pours is a deep, light-sucking brown-amber with a rather ephemeral beige head. Light body hovers around watery, has some malt though, lightly sweet with no real bitterness, but light citric and prickling hops and mild chocolate way in the background. Faint nuts, as well -- this is a watered down trail mix brown, but a clean and very drinkable one. Touch of stale urine/funk and alcohol seemingly over 5% (though not extreme) are enough to bring it down a notch.
