Fantastic beer all around. This beer is a true meaning of a Brown Ale. The aroma and the taste of this beer is textured perfectly. I also had the Cask Fantome. This one exceeded my expectations.

I thought thi sone was a nice example of the "northern" style of British brown ale, on the order of Newcastle, but better. Very nice deep caramel color, some [but not much] malt sweetness, nice hops finish. I ony wish I could have had another, but it was time to go!

Dark copper color with a small head. Malty, slightly fruity aroma. Nutty, toasted malt taste. Dry finish.

Woody earth aroma, with vanilla and a hint of sweetness.Deep brown umber color, with a rapidly vanishing head. Medium body, with slight nut taste. Earthy undertones. Not a bad nut brown, but not a standout.

Deep, amber-brown color with a quickly dissipating head. Smells like a belgian strong (a vanilla sweetness to it). The aroma is lovely, inviting. Yum! Tastes a lot like a Belgian strong, too, but without much of the sweet, biting alcohol. There's definitely vanilla in the flavor (it would probably make a great vanilla float!). It's lovely, sweet, with a hint of balancing sourness in the finish. Very good.

DuClaw Brewery and Eatery in Belair, MD.
Sparkling clear, cherry wood hue with a small, bone-colored, creamy head. Minimal lacing, but a very nice creamy head remains for the duration.
The aroma is of dark chocolate and English toffee.
The flavor is rich and malty up front with blasts of milk chocolate, caramel and English toffee up front. Well-balanced by a tart hop addition on the backside.
Medium-bodied with a watery mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation.
Short, crisp and clean finish.
A great, grown Springtime beer!... and hey, it's 67 degrees outside. Perfecto!!

Clear red-brown body. Aroma and taste are both vanilla, sweet, and nutty malty. Medium body. Nothing special, but pleasant in its own right.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2005 Firkin version. This was awesome. Can only hope more is on the way. Every Friday should be a firkin Friday. Caramel, buttery, toffee for both smell and tastes. Slight hint of hops. Almost Scottish Ale like in flavor and character. The extra molasses used in this version really stood out in a good way. Smooth velvety mouthfeel, served the way real beer should be. Will rate standard Fantome on next visit. Was having trouble ordering anything but the firkin. It was too good to not keep drinking it.
