Someone call George Clinton because the Funk is about to arrive. DuClaw’s latest creation, Funk, is a blueberry citrus wheat ale that screams summer with an almost shandy-like crispness and flavor. This brew features Meyer lemons and blueberries as well as Cascade and Columbus hops. Look for this beer on shelves starting next Friday.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold body with a thin and fizzy white head that vanished pretty quickly. The nose is quite fruity and juicy with a minimal malt impact. Smells pretty tasty actually. The flavor is a bit lacking though, it’s very thin with just a light watery fruitiness. Extremely light bodied with fizzy fine carbonation. This could pass for a flavored seltzer, it’s that thin. I guess it’s good that it’s not overly sweet and cloying, but there really needs to be more going on in here.

Bottle from Beer and Wine. Dark golden body with slight haze and medium to low head. Nose is sweet, blueberries, and citrus kick. Taste is berries strongly up front, with wheaty and straw taste in the middle. Some citrus notes and the berries return. A pretty strange brew...

bottle, from Bottle Revolution RDU, Packaged 03/22/16. ok aroma, sweet fruity. little dance with blueberry and lemon, golden orange color, not much head or lace. bitter sweet flavor. light body, thin smooth creamy mouthfeel, dry sweet finish. it’s ok, guess i went in with different expectations with a name like funk, but nothing to excite me. aroma is best part, IMO. nice fruit. taste doesn’t offer same dimensions

On tap at SLL tasting. Pours a clear golden with a white lacing for a head. Smells of citrus and grassy malts with juicy and fresh berries throughout. Tastes of grassy malts with lemon citrus and lemon grass flavorings and a slight banana. Slight berry tartness in the finish. Medium body with stinging carbonation on the roof of the mouth.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2016 Draft at The Irish Pol. Hazy amber pour. Lots of egg-shell foam. Some mild blueberry syrup in the nose. Fairly full body with toasted wheat malts and enough hop bite to mute the sweetness. Balanced but pretty sure no actually blueberries were hurt in the manufacturing of this brew.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2016 Weird. Some blueberry aroma, less in the flavour. Aroma is okay, flavour is artificial and quite boring. Disappointing.

bottle @ Chief Market / Lima OH --- Clear light amber, smooth white head, globs of lace. Taste is wheat. Ad malt with light blueberry and lemon. Medium carbonation in the swallow, mild hops to finish. This one is light and understated for me. The fizz gives it energy, otherwise it’s a light hot weather brew. Wouldn’t repeat.

Pretty solid fruit! Plain golden pour w/ a nice & subtle blueberry aroma. The taste is mildly fruity & rather drinkable. Decent!

12 oz bottle into a lager glass. 18 March 2016 packaging date. Light body with medium+ carbonation and a dry finish. Aroma: earthy hops, lemon, blueberry puree and wheat. Flavor: a well balanced mix of blueberries, grains and hops, with the blueberry readily detectable but conservatively added, allowing the hops and grains to dominate. Some lemon in the finish. Overall: not funky bur rather clean and refreshing.
