COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Someone call George Clinton because the Funk is about to arrive. DuClaw’s latest creation, Funk, is a blueberry citrus wheat ale that screams summer with an almost shandy-like crispness and flavor. This brew features Meyer lemons and blueberries as well as Cascade and Columbus hops. Look for this beer on shelves starting next Friday.

Nearly no aroma. Clearish yellow pour. Sweet, blueberry/citrus taste with a bit of a sweet aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Smells of citrus and a bit of spice. Taste is citrus up front with a back of something unidentified. Mediocre.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Wegmans Leesburg. Hazy yellow gold pour with a thin white head. Odd blueberry and wheat nose. Weird lingering blueberry and citrus pith taste. Limp on the tongue. Not very good as a fruit beer or wheat beer.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured clear, yellow, small white head, spotty lacing on the shaker. Aroma of wheat and blueberries, also some citrus fruit. Taste is consistent, grain and fruit. No bad, quite refreshing, tastes pretty well and is very easy to drink.

On tap 5 oz. sample at DuClaw in Bowie, MD. Clear, yellow-gold with an off-white head and good lacing. Aroma of blueberry syrup, wheat and hand soap. First, a blueberry ale should make you think of fresh blueberries, not IHOP. Second, beer should not remind you of hand soap--specifically in this case, unscented Kiss My Face hand soap. Although it's unscented, it has a mild aroma that is pleasant enough in a hand soap, but totally inappropriate in a beer. The taste begins with that same hand cleaner, followed by blueberry syrup and wheat flavors. Medium body and medium/low carbonization. Dispute its faults, this beer had promising elements. At moments it came across as a wheat ale where the fruit element was blueberry rather than orange or lemon. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

If its a fruit beer, I want to taste the fruit. Not sweet which is good, but could use more fruit

Draft... Clear yellow pour with a mid-sized, fizzy, white head. The nose is a blend of blueberries, “unscented” soap and wheat. Light to medium-bodied with lively carbonation. The flavor is of textured and spicy grains with a lightly soapy character. Crisp, blueberry finish. Not bad, but not so good either.

12 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville, opened 5/30/14. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a thin white head. Fair head retention. Aroma of wheat, blueberry, bright lemon finish. The taste is wheat, blueberry, lemon and mild spice in the finish. Thin bodied, moderate carbonation.

Bottled 05/01/14. Sweet nose wheat with blueberry tart. Hazy golden body with a very short white head. Taste very sweet but not cloying, strong wheat base with mild citrus and very good blueberry jam right up the middle, it’s natural and refreshing. Heavy full body, closer to flat than crisp, simple but pleasant malt, good meld of flavors. Hops are pretty well backed off, not really any bitterness, either. Really, really tasty, and seems just like what Moses had in mind when he revealed the American Fruit Beer.

Bottle. Pours a decent golden color. Aroma is of citrus, berries, light spices, pie crust, and some herbal yeast notes. Taste is a decent balance of citrus bitterness and berries, light artificial sweetness, clean malty grains. Not bad, but not one you want to session.
