This year, we aged a limited quantity of our award winning (Brewerís Association of Maryland Governorís Cup gold medal winner in 2006, 2007 and 2008) Barleywine, Devilís Milk, in Kentucky White Oak Bourbon barrels to create a uniquely tempting new brew. Hell On Wood is medium/full-bodied and amber in color with a thin, persistent, off-white head. Its mesmerizing citrus flavors and aromas, accented by notes of charred oak, vanilla, and caramelized sugar, give way to a palate dominating hop finish balanced by smoky, bourbon character and a warming alcohol presence (10.6% alcohol by volume). Thereís no escape; prepare to fall to the seductive power of Hell On Wood!

The hints of bourbon from the barrel process donít help mask the high ABV, but add a unique flavor. Itís nearly a bourbon Boilermaker in a bottle. Nice aging process for a barleywine.

Bottle from WF PM. Pours hazy copper with loud, off-white head. Nose is caramel malt, molasses, oaky bourbon. Tastes rich, very dense on the tongue, with heavy oak and bourbon flavor, caramel, molasses, hops, mild smoky flavor. This is the best DuClaw beer I have had, and Iíll be buying a case to cellar.

Willrunforbeer reached into his cellar and pulls out a 2/14/2014 bottle, what a guy!! Sort of a Dirty muddy water Amber color, head died right after the pour. Aroma is fruity with English malts, oak and light bourbon.

Very nicely aged here... I guess some people still drink these fresh?? The caramel, toffee and bourbon just works. The booze has completely mellowed out. Mouthfeel is low carbonation with a light boozy finish. More ? Yes please!!

Poured from bottle. Aroma of bourbon and some malt. Appearance is solid brown with tan head. Tasting vanilla, alcohol, wood, some smokiness, brown sugar, grassy and citrusy hops, caramel, pepper. Palate is full and rich, although boozy. Overall, a great brew. Wish Iíd had this on a colder day by the fire.

Appearance: Murky as heck brown with a frothy light tan head on top.
Aroma: Nice! Big malty caramel, coconut, bourbon, and oak. Smells a bit musky. Very nice.
Taste: Exactly like the aroma with some vanilla.
Palate: Medium bodied, lightly carbonated.
Overall: Dang good BBA Barleywine. Price is not consistent with other DuClaw beers though, guess theyíve raised the prices.

Bottle from Perfect Pour. Dark red body with medium head. Nose is malty, and barley wine coming through, with anice. Taste is definitely anice in the front. And barley kicking through. Strong ABV. Good stuff.
