3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle: Pours bright orange, clear, small white head with CO2 release stopping soon after pour, small bubbles stick to the glass. Aroma is citrus hops, grapefruit, slight leather. Taste is salty and sweet with a bitter finish, kind dry. Slight shock to the taste buds at the begining with a bit of a sour finish. Has promise but leaves a taste that is not completely pleasant.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a dull copper color with a brief head that leaves no real lacing to speak of. The aroma is almost nonexistent. I just pick up on nothing, save maybe a faint implication of hops. The flavor is on the bitter side, there’s a slightly astringent hop character that leaves a little tingle of an aftertaste, but not much more. I won’t have this again.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a clear copper body with a nice one finger frothy off-white head that left some nice lacing. The nose has a really unique hop variety that I don’t know that I’ve smelled before. It does have some similarities to Nelson Sauvin I think. The malt stays nicely in the background letting the hops take center stage. The flavor doesn’t stack up quite as well as those other famous hops from NZ, but they are still unique and pretty tasty. Nice tropical fruit notes without a whole lot of bitterness. The malt is OK up front, but it’s sweetness exerts itself a bit much on the back end. Medium bodied with nice soft pinpoint carbonation, the lingering finish is both positive and negative for me. Interesting beer, and some extra credit for seeking out an unusual hop variety and showcasing it.

Light amber color with a foamy off white head. Juicy nose of orange juice and tropical fruits. Lots of hop flavored Jolly Rancher candy with orange juice, tropical fruit and apricot jelly on toasted English muffin. Syrupy texture. Long sweet hoppy goodness.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
UPDATED: JUL 22, 2013 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy orange-tan color with a large foamy orange-white head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was earthy, woody and somewhat meaty. The flavor was bitter, earthy, meaty and bready with a bock like sour caramel presence. Long bitter sour caramel finish. Medium body. Not good.

Citrus fruit and caramel on the nose. Orange-red with moderately retaining, white head. Bitter and somewhat sweet. Medium bodied, carbonation is moderate, and finishes with lingering, sweet, malt flavors. Very traditional and well balanced, but a little sweet.

Pours hazy brown with minimal head. Aroma of tangy citrus drenched malt. Taste is nicely balanced up front with a long peppery finish. I could have a couple.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Dark orange, the head is small but sticky. The aroma is big and earthy, rich with a wet pine forest. This drinks with a viscous burn, full of a big malt body and a bit of acidic burn. Good stuff. (#4928, 1/20/2013)
