A medium-bodied, golden IPA that gets in your face from first sweet sip to crisp, dry finish with the exotic tropical fruit flavors and aromas of New Zealand Motueka hops. With just enough malt character to keep the aggressive hop presence in check, and an unruly 7.5% abv, this brew was seemingly born to kick ass. And RAZE HELL!

Reviewed 3/2/13. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a moderately hazy burnished copper color. The head is a two finger offwhite shade. It features a nice creaminess and okay retention. S: This seems to be very malty - crystal malt, to be precise - with a lot of caramel, marzipan, and toffee. Sadly, the Motueka hops arenít very present, but they do impart a combination of grassy noble characteristics and grapefruit qualities. Typical of many DuClaw offerings, thereís almost a peppery tone to the yeast used. T: In a way, it drinks like a typical IPA, but the finish has a peppery zest to it. Before that, an initial wave of malt sweetness and a midtaste of grapefruit and orange help tie things together. Itís really not very bitter at all, just spicy. Subtle expressions of herbs pop up as well. Aside from being just a hair sweet at times, I like the balance of this one, if not the boldness. M: I find many IPAs that prodigiously use crystal malt have a coarse sharpness to them - and sadly this is no exception. Luckily, itís clean enough where it doesnít really linger too harshly. Carbonation and texture thickness are about par for a typical IPA. O: If youíre not going to make a great IPA, at least make a unique one. It doesnít quite fit into the former category, but this does enough to be considered the latter. Even if itís not necessarily worth investing a case of, itís certainly good enough to try once. Just donít expect bold grapefruit and pine hoppiness.

A very nice, easy to drink, yet potent IPA. I'd definitely have it again if given the opportunity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured hazy, orange with a nice white head and nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus fruit, resin from hops and malts. Taste, starts bitter and hoppy and then the fruit and malty notes start to come through. Decent IPA, enjoyable and drinkable; quite nice.

Pours a nice amber color with a nice foamy head. The aroma you pick up the malt right away with some dark fruit, on the first taste as well. Finishes nicely for a high ABV.

Bottle to English pint. Pours hazy, amber/orange, quick head, very little lacing. Aroma of apricot, light grapefruit. Taste is bready, caramel sweet. Not really that bitter, which tends to let the alcohol come through. Odd for a IPA at 7.5%. Medium body, medium carbonation, creamy mouth feel. Finishes with notes of caramel, grass, mango and apricot. Average but interesting.

Pours copper, thin off white head. Flowery nose. Taste has large bitterness, some pine and resin. Booze burn finish, light carbonation, medium body.

Not exactly worthy of the name. Has some soda like carb, but after drinking a DIPA from Green Flash and one from 21st Amendment, it?s hard to give this one equal footing. Solid, and I would drink it again, but I?d rename it first.

Pours a clear, bubbly amber with a thick eggshell head. Aroma has a firm note of resiny hops and a flowery hint. Flavor is hoppy, a little bitter, and - um, thatís it. Not great, but palatable. Texture is about average in both fizz and viscosity. Fair to middliní, but worth a fair shake.

Pretty Good IPA poured from a bottle a hazy orange color. Floral and citrus notes are distinct in the aroma. Flavor starts sweet and finishes bitter, but not too bitter. I would like to try this from a tap.

Pour at PGH Beer Fest. Hazy orange pour. Aroma is floral and herbal. Not too much citrus. Malty taste. Not great.

Pours a cloudy orange color. Decent floral nose. Taste has some citrus up front (not much), but goes straight to a bitter finish. Not all that well structured. Alcohol not well hidden. Meh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
