COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
H.E.R.O. Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter was created by the winners of our first ever H.E.R.O. homebrew competition, Tony Huckestein and Doug DeLeo. This jet black porter is full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and rich malty flavor accented by notes of chocolate, coffee, and peanut butter. This complex flavor profile is balanced by a subtle hop character and moderate 6.5% abv., making this unique beer surprisingly drinkable.

Serving: Bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a dark cola like color with a small, tan head. The nose is a mix of slightly roasted malt, lots of peanut butter, and a little cocoa. The flavor leans more towards the roast and cocoa but has a peanut butter finish. A touch rough around the edges on the palate. Definitely different and interesting. Worth a shot.

Pours dark brown / black with billowy beige head. Aroma is huge peanut butter and very surprising with some chocolate and roasted notes. Taste is surprisingly peanut buttery and almost salty. Very strange but pretty good.

Pours a dark brown/black color with a one finger head that sticks around. Aroma of chocolate, roasty malts, and feint peanut butter. Taste is more muddled up front but finishes nice, peanuts and chocolate are both present. This is way overcarbonated and I feel that it takes away from what could be a really nice beer. Overall it’s good, not great

Quite nice brew. Served at room temperature from a 20 oz bomber. Pours a rich black color with a substantial head. Odor has trailing peanut butter notes that are delightful with a accents of lighter chocolate roast. Hop balance is slightly to the dry side without pushing any herbs or grassy notes. The overall taste is medium body with slight bitterness. A slightly bigger body and reduced bitterness would make this a medal winner. Even so, quite nice.

Tap. Pours deep, dark brown with medium, fizzy tan head; short retention and spare lacing. Aroma is caramel and roasted malts, earthy hops, corn, and light smoke. Flavor is malt dominate, light hops and esters; dry, chocolate finish. Medium body and warmth with high carbonation.

Awesome concept for a beer. However it doesn’t quite pull it off. Mostly peanut butter aromas. Flavors are dominated by chocolate and coffee. Finishes with peanut butter on the tongue. Overall a pretty solid effort.

22oz bottle pours a translucent, chestnut brown with a very foamy, of white head. Nose is kind of weird, almost smells a touch infected. There are aromas of nuts, toasted bread, light chocolate, but also something cardboard, a bit stale. Flavor is better, dried chocolate powder, some nuts, a little malt, some very light molasses. Finish is medium bodied, lightly dry but a little watery. I think if they had kicked up the alcohol and improved the body this beer would have been a lot better. As is, it’s a little weak and over promises while it under delivers.

On the 11th day of Christmas, Chalsk’s beer gods poured for me....H.E.R.O. The beer pours dark chocolate with a caramel amber hue and tan head. The aroma has a nice amount of the peanut butter and small sweet caramel malts or toffee notes. The flavor has light sweet notes, not quite full on chocolate peanut butter but still pleasant, maybe a bit of caramel. The body is a bit lighter than I would like but about on for a single porter.

22 oz bottle. Just clear deep brown with tan foam. Nose is chocolate and hay but after a while all i smell in peanut; funky. Milky mouthfeel with a tang. Taste is chocolate, cola and peanut then bitter black tea. Not half bad for a peanut beer.
